Yeah, good luck with that. Better hope they never hear rap music.

There’s 2 types of ________ people. White trash and hood rats are the same level of worthless.

we will stay over here y’all stay over there type of racism
The Louisiana way. Abandon a part of town when black people move in then never go back.

We would tell n word jokes without any thought of it being wrong.
I think there’s a fine line between being racist and just offensive humor. If telling racial stereotype jokes is racist, then I’m basically David Duke.

Yes. I can't have rational discussions about race with my family; but I get it, they're from a very different era. I can't even fathom segregation, and that was the only reality they knew growing up

Somewhat, but I always challenged them growing up. Quite honestly, the hardest thing for me to overcome has been my personal experiences with people from other races, being as my most negative experiences have come from those outside my race. So I have to step back and ensure I overcome what my brain is programmed to do, and treat everyone as an individual, not like those that wronged me.

In a ways, yes. Not because of my parents, whom were from the South, but because I lived in upstate New York.
The most racist people are the ones who come from lands of no diversity.
Living in Texas now, it is one of the most tolerant places I have lived. We have to be, to get along.
My Caucasian kids are just a majority minority in their schools.

grew up in the south too. Being in the south and having trashy racist parents are 2 different things.
Who are you saying has trashy racist parents?

Good for you! We can't choose our parents and family, though.

A lot of people were raised in a racist environment, although in most cases it wasn't overt. My grandfather, for example, was a product of his time. He didn't say the n word all of the time, but it did come out from time to time. He certainly wouldn't have voted for Obama. Same with my old man. He was a teen/young adult at the height of the civil rights movement. It is difficult, and I would say somewhat unfair, to judge people of the past by modern standards. You have to judge them by the standards of their time. My grandfather would probably be considered a raging racist today, but in his younger days would probably not be considered any more racist than the next guy. It doesn't mean he was a bad person or anything.

By today's standards of racism, dad was a klan member.
By 80's standards, still pretty prejudiced. But seeing a bad example is sometimes just as effective as teaching the right way.
My kids (7 & 9) just don't see color, as cliche as that sounds. Our ISD is like the United nations b/c it's the closest Houston burb to the medical center. So every color and country is represented at school. We love it.

Going around the house bitching about n****** is racist and doing it in front of your kids is trashy.

I get that. I’m just saying people can’t just blame it on being from the south. People in the north are just as racist. People forget that.

Yep. And I thought it was the norm.

No I was raised by a black lady pretty much. My parents were gone a lot and they had 6 kids. So we had a maid pretty much everyday, even weekends. We weren't an ot baller but back in the 50's and 60's, it was pretty cheap to have a maid. Loved her, she was very kind and from there I new all blacks weren't bad. About as much as whites.
