With the notable exception of soft drinks, I'll buy GV probably 98/100 if it's available and cheaper. Dr. Thunder is legit, but if I'm wasting calories, I want the real thing--and honestly it's about the only food item I can remember that tastes different from it's name brand counterpart.
Paper towels, straws, anything like that, it's GV all day in my household.

Kroger has King Cotton Bacon for $12.99 for 40oz/2.5 lbs. and Whole Foods has bacon $6 for 12 oz

You have to learn to shop around.
At Sams, you can buy 3 lbs of bacon for 16 dollars.
Discount stores are notorious for marking up items and say you are getting a deal.
