Went on a little adventure today (CSB & pics included)

I wanted to go fishing... I found a cool place on a map about an hour away from me, but I haven't ever done any trout and cold water fishing. Mostly just bass and crappie down in Alabama. So I stopped by a Fly shop to ask some questions... That wasn't much help because I wasn't gonna learn to fly fish in a day. But it turned out that both guys in the store had lived in Alabama before - so it ended up being a cool conversation. So I left there and went to a sporting goods store... did some Googling to figure out what my best options were. I ended up buying a simple set up and going along my way.
Well... It was a decently long drive to get to this place. Miles and miles on a dirt road, actually. Reminded me of fishing at my grandparents house when I was a child, except the scenery was a bit different.
Well... after the long drive to the supposed entrance to get to this place (in the middle of a National Forest), it turns out the gate was locked.
But I had already driven that far, and gone through that much effort... I wasn't going home without at least seeing water and getting a line in the water. So I found a place to pull over, pulled out the map, and started walking.
Saw some cool tracks along the way.
Walked and walked and walked... 'til I finally saw water.
But that was just the runoff from the melted snow on the mountains... Still had a long way to go. So I walked and walked and walked some more.
Found a cool little bridge...
And then this happened...
The fishing itself was a failure. I came fairly unprepared, lost my only lure after 4 casts, and had to walk back. But it was worth it. Hope you all enjoy the pics. :CSB:

Sooo...the takeaway from the story is that you're a poor and can't afford to own property on the banks of a blue-ribbon trout fishery, thus having to walk and walk and walk to find a place to lose your lure?

Didn't want to ask that guy for a lure and some tips?
Beautiful pictures.

These type of "adventures" usually end with a 30 man Search and Rescue team spending $50k of taxpayer dollars to find the guy who thought it would be fun to wander off into the woods.
Glad you didn't fit the stereotype. And shouldn't this be on the OB?

It's at a place called Rampart Reservoir, a little west of Colorado Springs. That specific spot is called Rainbow Gulch.

How many strange dicks do you think your wife has taken while you've been on your soul searching move to Denver without her?

You go on a half day trek to get to a fishing spot and only bring 1 freaking lure?!?!?!

Thanks! Yes sir. Loving it so far. Best decision I've ever made. Thanks for asking.

Well... at the time I got out of my truck and started walking, I didn't know how far of a walk it was going to be. I was hoping to just stroll through the woods and walk up to the bank of a lake and waste some time. Ended up being a little different than I had anticipated

Dude moved up there and left his wife at home for like a year until she can afford to move to join him. It wasn't for a job or anything. He just wanted to move to CO.
