There was also a big boycott of Target. They are up ~20% for the past year. The public has a short memory.

This whole thing is just so overwrought. I will NEVER EVER BUY ANOTHER NIKE PRODUCT OVER THIS ONE THING THAT REALLY DOESNT IMPACT ME.

Both sides do this shite so much.

It hasn't dropped below it's opening price today...

It's not like Nike is taking a nosedive.

And ftr, the overall market is down today.

It dropped over $3 in aftermarket trading.
Yes the overall stock market is down between .1 and .4% depending on if your an S&P or DOW guy, no where close to the 3+% on nike. BTW look at what Under Armour is doing.

Hey look, if Nike wants to just focus selling Air Jordan’s to the black kids of America and they can survive by doing so, then more power to them.

So how long before things go back to normal? A week?

Are you saying this is the end of Nike?

6 months at most? And then people will go back to grabbing whatever apparel they like the look of most or whatever is most convenient.

ETA: people who like CK will almost certainly remember this longer than those outraged who will move onto another boycott before too long.

Look the problem isn't that no one will ever buy another nike product because in general that just isn't true. The real truth is that when someone sees a pair of adidas or under Armour shoes or apparel that is similar they will purchase the competitor to nike. We saw it last year with the NFL and what happened to them and they don't even have a direct competitor, so in a marketplace as flooded as Nike's I sure wouldn't go with this sort of campaign. The big deal is that if it just influences a small portion of people say 10% of people chose a competitor then the effects could be drastic on Nike.

There is no way this ends up influencing even close to 10% of Nike’s market. They are a global company.

You can't be this stupid, right?

Agree with him or not, Kaep stood by his stance and it ultimately cost him his job. That's really undeniable. He's a mediocre QB, but he'd be with a team if he hadn't protested.

I think he's a misguided idiot who didn't even vote, but I have a sliver of respect for the fact that he stood by an unpopular opinion that cost him millions.

no indeed not, not even close, but I am saying it wasn't a smart decision. It could cause some layoffs though in the short term. It could cause oversupply issues in the short term, it could cause a litany of issues. but nothing to sink the ship. The biggest issue is that the NFL is going to be pissed, and that is the most valuable sponsorship Nike has by far.

I don't get the upside for Nike, but I'm pretty sure it's a much smaller deal than threads like this make it out to be.

USA still accounts for about ~40% of Nike's sales. So I wouldn't be so quick but yeah probably closer to 5% would be a better answer.
