Well the squirrels enjoyed the peanut butter on all the rat traps in the attic

I’ve posted before about my squirrel issue. They keep making holes under my eaves and finding ways of getting in. Every now and then it sounds like a construction project is going on in my attic. Guess they are adding new entry and exit points. I live in a nice house, so I hate to keep having to patch their holes.
My neighbor said he was catching big rats in his attic, so I figured it might be a combination of some rats too. I saw a snake hanging out just outside my house the other day and figured he wasn’t there to check out the landscaping, so I invested in some rat traps. I haven’t found any dead rats in the traps, but the peanut butter is gone and the traps sprung. It’s frustrating to have a squirrel run out and shake its fuzzy tail at you while you are walking across rafters to retrieve your traps. I know they are just messing with me. The squirrels seem to move them or they pop across the attic. My fear is I will pick up one not sprung and set it off while balancing on the rafters, giving the squirrels something to really laugh at.
I tried a squirrel trap, but they eat all the food in it without triggering it. I need to borrow some cats I guess. Anybody in the Baton Rouge area have a few cats I can borrow for a few days?

Put a snake in your attic

I have not tried it myself but I have heard a couple of people swear by this for getting rid of squirrels.
Put a strobe light in the attic. Supposed to work really well.

I'm about to start getting rid of mine. I've always live trapped and carried them off. They have gotten bad over the past year, though. May have to go the death route.

Sounds like you just need to burn the house down and start over.

Get or build a live trap. Place pecans or peanut butter or something inside. You can either kill them or carry them off to a wooded area away from other homes.

Squirrels are just tree chickens
