I grew up in a rural area of North Alabama between a small town named Altoona and a small community called Tait’s Gap that once was known, at least to the old folks, as “Opossum Trot Holler”. l dare say I’m probably one of only a handful of people under the age of 80 that even knows this random stretch of State Road 132 once actually had a name.

I’ve driven through some questionably named places in Arkansas like Bucksnort. I think there might have been a “Possum Stump” as well

My daughter lived in UK for 10 yrs in a community called Three Holes, west of Downham Market close to Lakenheath RAF while hubby was in the AF...
