How come when I grew up as a kid of the 70’s/80’s & college through the 90’s I never knew or heard of one person with a “peanut allergy”. Now it’s everywhere & it’s life threatening. It’s like the reverse version of quicksand.

I will say, given his job, he probably wasn't the one that had to deal with the details of a peanut allergy on a daily basis and so he likely didn't really realize how bad the decision to go to a smoothie shop was. It is also likely why he didn't specifically mention the allergy when requesting no peanut butter.

If your kid has a deathly allergy, you need to feed him at home. Why would you trust fast food workers?

Could be a mild allergic reaction so cross contamination isn't an issue.
But a big as glob of peanut butter makes the allergic reaction a real deal.
