So the same people that want to take down the statue of a U.S. President have erected a memorial to Mike Brown in Ferguson. Lulz

An increase in min to age would be detrimental to those who make minimum wage. It's hilarious that people who support it don't understand it.

You're arguing with someone from chalmette. "It's never wise to argue with an idiot, they'll bring you down to their level and beat you with experience"

That's just economics. They don't have time for all of that.

So if the lowest rung gets an increase in pay to 15, what happens to those whom used to make 15?

They get laid-off because the business owner can't afford to pay them anymore. Unemployment will go through the roof.

I make this argument all the time to the $15 people.

We pay $10 for an unskilled worker. So if the minimum wage jumped to $15 we would have to pay closer to $20 per hour. That would essentially shut us down.

Or, we raise prices. And that's what all industries would have to do. So suddenly $15 an hour is not enough.

The $15 an hour people want to be given rather than earn.

well if you can't afford to pay people, don't run a business.

I'm sure small businesses would be exempt...

You obviously still don't get it. Burger flippers making $15 would put them on par with entry level teachers or some lower level construction workers. They would look at this and say fu, I need $25. The $25 per hour jobs will next demand $35 and now the new poor make $15 and you've changed nothing but prices.

I actually have a life, so I didn't waste my time wading into the cesspool of NO today to see the paid professional protestor snowflake idiots. Had I gone, the guy with the "Kill Whitey" sign and I would have had a deep conversation about his choices. I am ashamed that no one had the balls to take that pussy down. What has happened to basic human decency?

I didn't see that. I was hanging out with my kids most of the day but if true, imagine the backlash if the tables were reversed

Why should businesses be extorted into paying over market value for labor? So let's get this straight a business owner has to pay for location, insurance, capital equipment, and on top of that places a large amount of his money at risk in hopes of making a go, and people like yourself want them to artificially pay people higher just because? Gtfo with that shite

Is this a troll? Automated cashiers are already starting to take the place of in person cashiers at some fast food places. It's cheaper to install a computer that will take an order correctly the first time than to pay employees much higher than what the job skill is worth. If people don't see the path this is heading, then we have much bigger problems.

It won't be long until a McDonalds is staffed with less than 10 workers and is run almost all automatically. You'll have someone to manage and oversee, and someone to clean.

The bottom line is, you have to have a skill to get paid for skilled labor wages. If cost of living exceeds $7.50/hr or whatever minimum wage is, then increase that as necessary, but don't expect many people to support anything over that. A minimum wage job is not a career.
