Congress hasn’t declared war on anyone since World War II.
this old saw needs to be retired, sort of meaningless, especially to those(and the families of those,) who've sacrificed their lives at the behest of whatever idiot happens to be in the White House and whatever policies they are implementing at the time

The British screwed up the ME at the end of WW 1. The Persians attacked ancient Greece.Must be something in their water? What a fricked up place.

Yes, this was all a ploy by Trump to get impeachment out of the news.
Not that our Embassy was attacked a few days ago or anything.

This is likely a stupid question - just acknowledging my ignorance before asking....
Is it necessary that we have an embassy in countries where there is heightened risk of being attacked? Why do we even have an embassy there, so we can pretend like we're trying to be friends?
To someone who knows nothing about this, it seems like the best thing to do would be abandon the embassy - therefore eliminating any chance of attack - and schedule meetings/facetimes/calls/etc when negotiating is necessary.

opposition political leaders can talk to you face to face
it's about developing the relationships and assets on the ground
not all intel is gathered by bugging

No, we won't. Iran will vow retaliation but will do little, if anything.

The right loves nation-building and regime change. The left wants to try socialism again. "This time it will work."

They will retaliate, probably by proxy. Do you really not understand that? It’s not an if but a when and where. They are bouncing ideas off the Russians and Chinese probably as I type this.

In what universe could American foreign policy for the last several decades be considered "standing down"?
