Oh I'm registered Republican.
Again, it's not your fault... you do not understand the process of taxation, in particular excise duties .

You can deflect all you want. You want the government to collect more taxes for something you don't like. Who made you the decision maker? And is taxing things you don't like really the precedent you want set?
Posted on 5/30/24 at 8:50 am to Dragula
Yes.... for no other reason than for the cost that later comes to people's health. They will drain the medical system later due to these poor choices.

Yes... The Government spent $283 Billion on obesity-related direct health costs in 2023, projected to rise to $526.5 Billion by 2033.
You might be fine with that or likely part of the problem, but I as a healthy individual should not have to pay for your McDonald's heath related habit.

And you think a tax on only fast food is going to have any kind of real impact on that? The answer is no.
So not only are you not reducing healthcare costs with this feel good tax, you're taxing otherwise healthy people that are on road trips or need a quick bite for whatever reason. That's stupid.

That is my point as well.
Remember when people said they didn't want to take the Covid vaccine and celebrities were screaming "let them die in the streets for their stupid decisions"? Hospitals shouldn't admit un vaxxed patients. Remember that?
Well... I am willing to allow these people to make poor nutritional decisions at their own risk. But... they have to pay a food "sin tax". Ever buy beer and wine in La? Guess what? The taxes are higher than regular groceries. I pay it with the understanding consuming alcohol is not the healthiest decision I could make.

Using other stupid taxes as a defense of another stupid tax. That is certainly a take

I like how you have no rebuttal to the post.

Where do the taxes on alcohol go?

What I've learned in this thread:
Taxes on things I like: REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Taxes on things I don't like: TAX IT TO THE GROUND!

Should we repeal alcohol and cigarette taxes for travelers ?
I think one of the reasons we have turned the corner on cigarette consumption is taxes. It has worked. I smoked for 10 years out of college and quit 29 years ago. No way I could spend that kind of money again to help destroy my health. I think this has had a positive effect of health care costs. Unfortunately, obesity related diseases have swallowed up any savings realized.
Eating fast food is poison. I travel 200 days a year and hate how I feel eating McDonalds, Wendys or Chick Fila. It is high in sodium and a plethera of other bad things.

Should tax internet consumption, would make for a more productive work force and nation

Should repeal them all together IMO.

Outdated take is outdated. There are plenty of healthy options at fast food places.

Choose better options when eating fast food then. More taxes is never an answer to anything.

I eat fast food maybe once every few months and I say no. We have too many taxes already. Everything is taxed. We already pay over $10 for a value meal thanks to sleepy Joe.

Like "tax the rich"?
I don't think even the "science" can defend the nutrional challenges fast food presents to our society.
I guess the new motto should be "Tax the rich and let me eat Ma McDonalds until I get diabetes and become disabled at 50 to work".

Dude, you are fat because your bored sedentary arse is making regular visits to McD's, Sonic. Popeye's and Taco Bell and you are using America's favorite addictive substance daily, sugar.
Eliminate the cola, bread and potato chips and Little Debbie's and most cereal and you would probably be fine.

I'm really liking how you keep using stupid tax arguments to defend your position in this thread
