We processed 10 this year, doing another 11 early next year. Momma was naming them before but now we don't

they are cows they are an investment for food.

unless it was in the house watching TV with you and sleeping on your sofa, why should it have the slightest effect on you?

getting rid of meat is a non-starter
What will happen is this: Scientists will invent an artificial meat that tastes ALMOST as good as the real thing, and people will be pressured into eating that.

Eventually we will end up with Food Board threads titled "Remember when Ruth's Chris used real meat?"

And Slo will post "Statistics show 99% of people can't taste the difference"

That’s a good sign she went calmly. You have higher quality beef as a result.

Best justice y’all can do her is eat it all.

You ever seen a horse named Tammy? I got one

Hanging weight is on average 60% of the live weight. Packaged weight will be around 60% of the hanging weight

I used to raise a bullock every year but if it wasn't show quality* then it usually ended up at the abattoir. I never really got used to it. Of all the parenting decisions my father made letting me tag along and walk through the abattoir when I was five was not at the top of his wide decisions. It was horrifying.

*my father had a hobby farm (~60 head) and raised polled Herefords that he liked to show

We sent a cow to the processor
Moved back home 3 months ago. One of the reasons was to help aging inlaws.

We sent one of our cows to the processor last week. Should yield 350-400 pounds.

Very bittersweet feeling. Anyone relate?

Are you crying?

There's no crying in animal processing.

It's a commodity, not a pet.

Now, a dying dog...you can cry.

That said, no crying over cats...those are the Devil's pets.

My only solace is we've toured the processing facility. It's stress free, they take the cow to the killing floor, and it's over quick.

Don't let the name throw you, Jimmy, it's not really a floor. It's more of a steel grating, that allows material to slice through so it can be collected and exported.
