We already have 7 am sunrise in December which sucks out loud. If this goes through it'll be 8 am.

Better than it being dark again by 5 PM.

they can’t choose year-round daylight.
Thank you for the clarification, I wasn't aware.

that extra hour of sunlight would be pretty clutch for people with kids

Have fun getting them to school in the pitch dark.

My prediction is what happened last time will happen this time. People will hate late sunrises more than they like sunsets at dinner time. It will last 1 year and will change back. Just like last time.

Yes. In the 1970s. People hated it so much it only lasted 1 year.

From wiki...

quote:

From January 6, 1974, to October 1974, Congress passed the Emergency Daylight Saving Time Energy Conservation Act in response to the 1973 oil embargo. This was intended to save energy, but the public quickly grew to hate the dark, freezing winter mornings (particularly for children going to school). Congress amended the law to end the year-round experiment early.

I don’t understand the mindset of people who want it to be dark in the morning and bright in the evening.

Because most people work some variation of 9-5 give or take an hour. Very few people are going for a run or doing outdoor activities before going to work. They want to do those things after work. The sun going down at 7pm instead of 6pm is a way more convenient. Plus it’s naturally warmer in the hour before sundown than the hour after sunrise.

But there’s also body clock / circadian rhythm considerations, which aren’t as easy for people to think about/understand.

This, I hate waking up when it’s still dark outside.

Also, it’s hard to get kids down at night when it’s still bright AF at 8pm.

This is the key.. We are discussing this issue in late May .

Ive said for years, to anyone who would listen- the only way this thing gets changed is consistency.. NOT just bitching and moaning about the time change in the two week period twice a year around the time it happens, and then everyone just forgets.. human nature, and all that

Me, i was never really all that bothered by the time change , i could take it or leave it.. hell, i dont even live in America anymore, so im just whatever.. but it’s nice to see a little follow up on the brief period of bitching and moaning i hear twice a year .
