At this point if my daughter chooses Texas A&M instead of LSU I would be pretty ok with it.

A&M has their own set of problems. Members of their football team are BLM ing out, marching against statues and tweeting that their alums are racist.

They all want so badly to be part of something they hate and the tear it down. If these environments are so bad, why not gravitate toward a more welcoming safer space like Southern or Prairie View?

It would be beyond absurd to cave to any idiot crying about the LSU Tigers.

No one associates the LSU Tigers to whatever past he is on about. It's not even worth reading, because no one is reminded of whatever BS he is spewing.

Enough is enough. LSU has zero reason to change mascots.

the Advocate is just a pet project of Georges for his own personal platform and to give him clout.

This is completely accurate. Also, Georges is a very wealthy Tulane alum who thinks of LSU the same way as most wealthy Tulane alums.

Mark Ballard is about as far to the left as it gets in the dying Louisiana print media. He’s on a sinking ship and knows it. He’s just gonna crank up the hysteria volume and let the music play until the ship is completely under water.

While LSU’s newly minted BOS shouldn’t be taunted too hard because there are some extreme left agitators in its latest form....I really have a hard time seeing them cave on a mascot name change, which would also mean changing Hey Fightin Tigers. Good luck with that.

The Confederate story was a fabrication anyway. LSU just needs to admit that and move on.

How the advocate stays in business In a red state with shite like this astounds me

Wasn't the Advocate begging for donations essentially to stay afloat a while back.

This is what happens when people don’t have real problems. They spend their days in a perpetual search for angst and outrage. It’s like we crave it.

I heard it originally dates to LA troops in the MexicanWar and then was carried into the Civil War. Haven’t seen any source documents or references on that though.

He'll probably use comments directed at him because of this column to do another column saying how bad LSU fans are or something of that nature since the paper uses any means necessary to try and get attention these days.

Very few people knew why LSU is called the fighting Tigers. The Advocate article just enlightened them. The Advocate is the race baiting problem.

To play devil's advocate here: this website constantly brought it up the past few weeks/months.

Wouldn't surprise me if the guy who wrote the article got the idea from here.

It was an attempt to make “Tigers” less generic and to increase LSU’s status as a southern university. Now that being associated with the Confederacy is a bad thing, LSU just needs to nudge the Rebel fairytale to the back and remind people that Sherman was in charge of LSU before he killed all of those slave owners and burned those plantations.
