It's minor bits where people talk about where they work, where their kids go to school, and also another thread I saw today where people knew OP's first name. All of it is trivial (if one wanted) to find out who a poster actually is. I'm not going through anyone's posts, but I see birthyears attached to user names every day, among other things. When I last lived in BR you could shut off someone's water only knowing their birthdate.

It's generally a lack of awareness on how little information is needed to piece together who you are.

I know I'm more paranoid than everyone else here, but I have a valid point.

Barry Switzer got very unfair treatment when he got in trouble for insider trading.

That's true, but this place has done such an amazing job at retaining active members (over decades now) compared to all but a few other "niche" message boards that, even though we might not be family, we've developed the same "heard all your stories and bullshite before, and you've heard all mine" mentality.

That's kind of the best thing about this board, but also a drawback. It's small enough that active posters get to know each other and develop reputations (good and bad) like real-life social circles. But just like real-life circles, it can feel insular and bubble-like quite often.

A lot of us are known entities to each other, so I'll just skip a lot of threads because I know what points will be made, by whom, and who the thread villains will be.

But I stay, like most of us, because the board feels like my "internet home" at this point. I'm not sure where else to go or if they'd even have me.

And it's been cool to "see" the people who made the most offensive dick jokes we could think of together with me in their twenties turn into mostly interesting people with a bit of life under their belts. Not to mention all the references (check yer mics, drive fast to save gas, San Francisco sea serpents, fat Gravy and the girl that can't be named, and on and on and on) no other people in the world even get, much less find hilarious.
