Settle down. Costco isn't forcing them on you. If you don't want to pay extra for cage-free eggs, go to Albertson's and get regular, hen-abusive eggs there.

The biggest price factor in eggs is the avian flu. It's decimated a lot of flocks. Egg farms that have kept the flu out of their chickenhouses are making serious bank.

Cage free really isn't that great anyways. The chickens are still trapped, they just have enough room to turn their bodies. Their mortality rate jumps significantly due to health problems, they require more labor to pick up the eggs laid everywhere, and they begin killing each other as they create interior cliques.

But they're "happy".
