Does anyone on here have experience purchasing watches (TAG, Tissot, Hamilton, Seiko, ORIS) off of Amazon? I’m thinking about getting one for my dad for his 70th birthday but I want it to be legit... not a Chinese fake. Are the watch prices on there too good to get true? A few On Amazon are 500 less than LMFJ.

Bought several Seiko 5's on Amazon, just make sure of the seller. If you want a better grey market Seiko, Casio, or Citizen then seiyajapan.com is your choice.

Got a factory refurbished swatch - it’s got a funny tick with the second hand.

I’ll likely go somewhere else next time

Bought a Tag Heuer F1 off Amazon about 6 years ago. Was new, perfect and real. I'd suggest checking out the seller prior to ordering.

Bought a Hamilton off of Amazon and within a year it broke twice and I ultimately received a full refund through Amazon/Asurion. Good customer service but I won’t be buying a watch off of Amazon again.

How do you know it’s a legit seller? A lot of the options are from fly watch, and I can’t find any other reviews/ratings other than what is on Amazon.

Models that typically aren't retail offerings in the US. Mostly the mechanical movement and some limited edition models. SeiyaJapan will ship directly to you, so basically buying a JDM watch. Same with Orient.

I have received some counterfeit products (not a watch) from Amazon. Amazon's inventory is commingled together and it's possible to get a fake product from a legitimate seller.

On one fake product I got the legitimate seller/manufacturer paid me $50 to send them the fake product that was sold by Amazon.com and seller was the manufacturer.

He was pissed off about how Amazon was mixing in counterfeits from 3rd party sellers with his product coming straight from the factory. What appeared to be the same item were dumped in a bin to fill orders. Some are real some are fake. Luck of the draw when they fill your order.

I'll never do it again. Bad experience purchasing a Tag.

Never buy Seiko, no matter what, or Pulsar or Bulova. They are not what they used to be.

Citizen is tricky on Amazon. Citizen will likely not warranty anything bought off of Amazon.

I'm a bit of a watch freak. Over the course of my lifetime I've bought and own/owned a lot of watches. I've got nine winders, some of them two and three watch winders, running right now and a stack of full watch boxes, many of which are worth more money (the boxes) than most people's most expensive watch.

I'd be very careful trying to buy even a moderately high dollar watch off of Amazon.

Buy low dollar watches off of Amazon and hope for the best. Sometimes you might be pleasantly surprised. It's hit and miss but if you know how to play the law of averages you might come out ahead. One you might try, for instance, is a Stührling. Make sure it is a Stührling Original and not a chinese knock off. There are some other good everyday values on Amazon. The key to the good deal on watches is to put those you like on a wish list or a save for later list. Then, when it comes up on an flash deal or rapid reaction deal, jump on it.

Good luck.

I bought a Seiko Sumo for $350 a few years back. Was factory fresh with box and papers.

A Chinese knock-off of a China made watch?? Seiko is an excellent choice for sub $500 offerings, and they just upgraded the movements in their entry sport line. Do a little research, hit up watchuseek brand forums and learn a little about the watch buy/sell/trade game if you have time and then look for what you want. Long Island watch is also a good source for learning/buying some of the brands you mention. Never, ever pay full retail for any of the brands you mentioned, even if it’s from an authorized dealer.

And “Grey” or “Gray” market dealers are re-sellers who typically buy from authorized dealers (most often at significant discount and/or in multiple quantities and then sell without the manufacturer warranty (some offer a warranty of their own). This is a simple explanation of Gray market as it pertains to watches, but germane to this thread.

It is not "Luck Of the Draw" when you buy from Amazon. Each seller that has a "Fulfilled by Amazon" item has their own unique bar code on their product. I agree plenty of fakes make it through, but choosing a quality seller is not that hard to get a legit item.
