It looked like a massive piece of Navaho Sandstone. The break was more likely caused by plate tectonics that caused a regional fracture pattern .
If you've ever hiked in some of the National Parks west of Knoxville, you'll see large masses of sandstone that dropped from high when the shales under them eroded away.
Did the lake undercut that, or did the river that proceeded the lake do the damage?

Rock collapses in water. Causes water level to rise. Water level rise means global warming is over.
