Looking to get a new every day dress watch and everyone is saying get something Swiss. Where are some good stores in BR that carry nice Swiss watches? Also what are some good brands to look for? Trying to spend around five hundred, may go up to a thousand but idk if the difference between those two prices will be the same kind of jump as going to five grand so I figure 500 will get something pretty decent. Looking for simple and classic (no frills), just a dark brown leather band with a white or silver face.

I usually watch my help leave to go to the store for me. I think they find the swiss in the dairy aisle.

You can get into a Tissot automatic for that. No idea what's local, though.

Is tissot a good brand? I've heard Hamilton is good as well. Any knowledge on those?

Tissot makes some really nice watches. You can get an automatic with a clean professional face for under $500. I have a non automatic and I've really liked it.

Somebody will drop in here and nerd out big time. There's some serious watch geeks on the OT.

$500-$1000 will get you something nice. Ignore the people who tell you that $2000 is the minimum. There's a watch store up on Florida I think. I do my watch buying on the internet

ETA: watchmann.com is a good store. Give them a call and they'll be able to hook you up. Tell them what you want, what you want to spend, they'll send you some pictures. Pick one and it'll show up in a week or so.

I have a Hamilton dress watch. Very minimal, very classy. Don't know the model but it has a simple silver face, quality brown leather band and is very very thin. Paid around $700 I think.

Cool thanks! I've been wanting to do some online stuff but I'm not much of a watch guru so I'm worried about sizing. I think most stuff along the lines of what I'm looking for is around 42mm, is that standard for the type of watch I'm looking for?

I'll definitely check that brand out then. I take it automatic just means it runs without having to wind it or something?

Look at Stowa if you want a $1000 watch.

Didn't think you could get a nice Swiss watch for 500 honestly.

I've been thinking about getting a Tissot Visodate as a dress watch in that price range. Might be an item of interest for you as well. From my research, Tissot appears to be a respectable brand, but I'm not 100% sure.

Yeah i just picked up a swiss watch off jomashop. Free shipping and it was here in 3 days.

Chrono24 is a great search engine for watches IMO

Yep, that's exactly the type I'm looking for. The other one I have been eyeing is the Hamilton jazzmaster thinline, very similar to the one you mentioned. I saw lee Michaels carries Hamilton so I guess I'll go check there. Not sure yet where has the Tissots.
