Watch Experts: Luminox?

Do Luminox watches stand the test of time? I’m pretty hard on watches. I spend most of my time outdoors at work and in my free time. Looking for something durable but not as busy as a G-Shock.

Yes, but honestly most any modern quartz dive watch will take a serious beating.
My favorite watch to beat the shot out of is a quartz Seiko dive watch but they have generally moved upmarket in pricing. A Marinemaster 300 or MM300 is an excellent example but is fairly expensive now. They make plenty of versions for ~1/3rd the price also. The issue for some is the Hardlex crystal but it is a pro/con argument vs sapphire.
One of the beaters I like to recommend is a quartz Scurfa like the Diver 1. The owner is Paul Scurfield and was a saturation diver for over 30 years and initially set out to build/have built a watch that could deal with the rigors of commercial diving without the price tag of some of the traditional sat diving watches. They are a micro-brand in the UK and you buy direct from them but Paul is a standup guy that sales a solid watch for a good price.

There are literally 100s of watches that would fit your use case. This is just one of the many I like.

Just a suggestion try a garmin 45s all digital pretty pricey but worth a shot???????

They are ok. But once the battery dies…… I have had two and had the batteries changed by dealers and they both leak! I would recommend a G-shock mud master or a Garmin smart watch the fenix or tactic

Most of the wearable tech watches are fairly delicate compared to a stainless steel case quartz watch with a sapphire crystal. There really is no need to design them to last for decades because they will be old technology within a year to two years.

Luminous Colormark 3045? Here. It is about 12 years old. Have changed the battery twice and it is still kickin. I am pretty rough on watches also. The Luke is starting to fade though.

The half-life of tritium tubes is 12 years so it makes sense you are at the point where it becomes a little disappointing.
I have honestly never owned a tritium lume watch. The fact they never have to be "charged" is cool though. I am not one that buys a watch based on how nuclear the lume is, some make a big deal of it. As long as I can see it in the morning it is not a big deal. Tritium has the benefit of always being "on" and never too bright or too dim until it gets pretty old.

I have had the Luminox Navy Seal for about a year. I am not a watch freak and just wanted a black watch with a black face. Saw it in a store for 40% off and liked the way it felt. I like how bright the numbers are on the dial when I am in the dark. Probably the most comfortable watch I have ever owned. I am very pleased with the watch.

Yeah I’d much rather a “real” watch myself I refuse to buy another Apple Watch because of the constant charging and updates that are needed. I personally enjoy the customizable aspect though lol..

I’ve got a 30 year old Luminox still ticking.

My series 8800 Recon Luminox is my casual wear watch. It’s one of my favorites. It’s been put through hell going back to my days in the Corps, and it’s flawless. No scratches whatsoever on the crystal, and the carbon case looks like new. It is still as bright as the day I purchased it.

I’ve had one in stainless steel for ten years. Great watch. It’s indestructible, it feels great, and it looks good.

I have one that I rec'd as a gift. I wore it a lot, then I dropped it on a wood floor and it stopped. For years it sat not working in a drawer. I had it repaired, then it leaked, a few months at a jeweler and I got it back, then saw that they had the hands out of sync, a few months more at a jeweler. I wear it now everyday, it's ok, not fixing it again though.

Sounds like your dealer doesn't know what they are doing. I have 2 Luminox watches for over 20 years and change the battery myself. Never have an issue with leaking.

I had one that started losing time within a year and a half. They started making me jump through hoops with the warranty stuff. I ended up just giving it away.
Have a silver Garmin Fenix 6 sapphire now and it’s fantastic.

Pretty sure you have owned a tritium lume watch. Probably not tritium tubes but definitely tritium.

I like them because they are built with an everything you need and nothing you don't philosophy.
Paul has proven himself to the community over the years which as a micro-brand is important. There is probably no other micro-brand in the world with as many watches actually being used in saturation diving, which is kinda cool.
I like Paul as a person because he went out of his way to answer all my questions and explain the intersection of watches and saturation diving and he is one of a tiny number of people that has practical experience in both. It is an area of watches that has had a huge amount of misinformation peddled over the years and it was amazing to hear from someone that has seen all the different modes of failure in person while talking like Mickey Mouse.

I have had a Fenix, Apple, G-Shock, and Luminox. If you want a no frills rugged watch then the g-shock cannot be beat. My Luminox is my beater and like a previous poster said I changed my batteries and as long as you take your time you should be good. If you want a simple health watch thingy then Apple. If you want to train for a triathalon while climbing a mountain then the Fenix is the pick.
