Washington, D.C.’s historic National Cathedral voted Tuesday to take down two stained-glass windows of Confederate generals.
The church confirmed windows honoring Gen. Robert E. Lee and Gen. Thomas “Stonewall” Jackson would be removed.
“This isn’t simply a conversation about the history of the windows, but a very real conversation in the wider culture about how the Confederate flag and the Old South narrative have been lively symbols today for white supremacists,” Bishop Mariann Budde, the leader of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, said. “We’d be made of stone ourselves if we weren’t paying attention to that.”

Seems strange that a cathedral has windows of Confederate generals (or any generals for that matter) anyway.

Why do we have a national cathedral? I thought the constitution said churches were illegal.

Why are these Protestant heathens displayed there anyway?

It does fly in the face of the narrative that the Southern leaders were considered vile traitors with no respectable qualities, doesn't it?
Almost like the argument is contrived bullshite.....

Yes, because white supremacy has been such an issue the last 20 years.
The more this 'topic' stays atop the news, the more I believe it was completely manufactured in Charlottesville.

The cathedral was chartered by Congress in the late 1800's and is also designated by Congress as the National House of Prayer.

Pfft, we'd get better use out of a national house of Pokemon. You religious people are so dense and simple.....

I grew up Episcopal. Even in small town Alabama, they were scarily liberal in both speech and theology. Wherever you find four Episcopalians, you'll find a fifth.

The Pacific Northwest had a huge white supremacy problem 20 years ago, actually.

The church installed the windows in 1953 after fundraising efforts.
These windows were not installed during the lifetimes anyone who knew the Confederate military leaders.
They were installed in the beginning of the Civil Rights Era as a Go-frick-Yourself to black people who were starting to get a bit uppity.
