the guy told me to check the pump and drain hose for a sock.

we are gonna miss these old timers in the future. Guy at Dixie appliance part can tell you what's wrong without ever seeing the machine.

Likely clogged. It doesnt take much to clog a drain.

Chances the pump is clogged vs pump is out?

i had this same problem a couple months ago. researched the crap out of it on youtube. Change the lid switch. you can do it yourself in about 30 minutes. Buy the switch ($35) at an appliance store.

Good chance, and it's a really cheap fix if so. At least give it a shot. Mine quit draining earlier this year and I changed it out myself.

I ask the guys at the store why they aren't in the field.
Sterling at APD knows more than any tech or instructor I've ever met. They like answering the phone and not having to deal with the actual machines.

Arghh. See guys what you did does not work for all.

It's like, say I was a Jaguar mechanic and someone here asked how to do rear brakes on a chevy.

If I told him.
"Well you don't need to take the wheels off to change the brake just jack it up and the brakes are right there on the rear end."
The advice wouldn't work. Because it's very specific.

No machine spins with a bad lid switch, some machines drain with a bad lid switch.

Op said unit spins.

So it can't be the lid switch

My Maytag tranny froze up. would spin but not agitate because the clutch was stuck.

I sadly tossed the set and grabbed a 2003 Sears/Whirlpool direct drive for $50. They were practically giving them away because they didn't realize all they needed was a $15 bushing or whatever that little plastic piece is called that wears out so the agitator won't turn.

Between that and a $5 bottle of touch up enamel I haven't had a single issue.

I'm going to be in the market for a washer/dryer after New Years.
Single and run 2 loads a week max.
I'm not looking for high end/bells and whistles machines.

Napolean: Can you give me a couple of recommendations?

Thanks is advance..

could be either. Unclog it and see if it drains. I've done this several times.

Probably a pair granny panties or yhat missing sock from last week putting the clog on you or the motor is out.
1 Watch YouTube
2 Order pump off Amazon
3 fix yourself
4 ??????
5 save money

Look for an Admiral, Roper or the cheapest you can get at home depot. All the machines in the under$1000 category are equally problematic. Ge brands the worst

Yeah, bushing.

Hit me up off you have an issue. I know those machines in my sleep.

I trained many new guys stripping and reassembling those machines. It's the pinnacle of washer design.
All the parts are cheap. You can rebuild the transmission for $25(diy not my price), the only critical issue to condemn them is frame rot or worn through tub.
I always try and convince people to keep those machines.

Chicken should give you a gift certificate or t-shirt or something.

You've no doubt saved posters tens if not hundreds of thousands of dollars over the year.
