Its either a 727 or a 737 that runs Gulfport to Atlanta for Delta...

Loud, loud, loud.
They still had ash trays in the arm rests well into the 80s.

Great planes. I skydived out of one at Quincy in 1998

Pretty damn good looking to me, I’ve got 8000 hours flying that jet. A John Wayne jet if you will.

I thought those were gum wrapper trays in the late 90's.

First commercial plane I flew on was a 727. Braniff Airlines.... never knew what color the plane was until you got to the gate.

When I took that trip to Ixtapa with my girlfriend at the time, we sat in the second to last row next to the starboard engine, we couldn't hear each other talk...

The L-1011 was the most wonderful airplane to fly in...EVER!

I thought the 707 was very elegant, nice lines -
But, I was always a sucker for the classic era widebodies (
) - the L1011:
The DC-10:
And, of course, the Marilyn Monroe of commercial aircraft, the 747 (I particularly like it in the Qantas livery):
And, lest we forget, the Concorde was a sexy, Ferrari of a plane:

I think the Brits had better looking Tri-Jets. They just didn't have the marketing muscle of Boeing or Douglas.
Here's a Hawker Siddeley Trident lined up next to a 727 for direct comparison.

Just cargo variants of small international (mostly Mexican) cargo carriers. This was my fav plane growing up as well. The only better looking plane to me is The Queen 747.

Flew into SHV this week and taxied past a 727, a few MD-11s, a 747, and a Metroliner.
They were all cargo, but it was like going back in time.

SHV Regional has a maintenance facility for Western Global Cargo. MD-11’s & 747’s pay a visit routinely. Still amazing sights to me, especially the 747.
Back in the 90’s, Rockwell Corp. used the same Western Global hanger & performed mods to C-5 Galaxies. I couldn’t believe those massive planes could take off from SHV’s 8,350 ft runway until I saw it myself. Just damn impressive.

Maybe not the best looking, but as a kid I'd see the mammoths with a sense of wonder:
And not airliners, but I'm partial to the World War 2 classic fighters:
P40
P51
Corsair
Spitfire
P38
Me-109
Me-262

interesting topic since the industry has moved away from rear power units.

I always like flying on 747s. Thing was so big you could get up and walk laps for a few minutes and stretch your legs on a long flight.

Nothing compares to the 747
