Sure, if you choose to ignore the historical and literary evidence for Jesus’ life, death and resurrection as described in the gospels…
C.S. Lewis wasn’t that ignorant though. Which is why he eventually converted to Christianity after several years as a devout atheist/agnostic.

I’m one on the fence and generally like the discussion. Extremely charismatic people have always gained followers and gained control over them. He was a real man, we know that. But in a time of way less scientific understanding, isn’t it possible he was a crazy charismatic self righteous lunatic? Not trying to stir anyone up.

He is for sure a tool of cult leaders

2000 years later and nothing has changed, just look at the political parties in this country.

Something to consider when it comes to who Jesus was and wasn’t. And I’ve posted this before but it bears repeating.
We know he was crucified by the Romans. We know that his followers all abandoned him when the Romans came for Him. We also know those same followers who abandoned Him, who initially went into hiding, then spread out around Asia, Africa, and Europe spreading His Gospel. They were persecuted, beaten, mocked, tortured, and killed but never once turned from their story. They all, these men who abandoned Jesus in life, later suffered and died horrible deaths all to tell people that Jesus was the risen Savior.
So what changed for these men?

The tomb was empty and then He appeared to them.

The difference between a cult, a religion, and a mythology is simply the number of people who believe in it, how socially accepted it is, and how long it’s been since it was socially acceptable.
You’re missing one option.

Indeed.. to paraphrase what Paul wrote..... If Christ did not rise from the dead then we are delusional...

People on this board will be outraged I say this, but its absolutely true. Trump is a cult leader. There are a lot of people loyal to him and there are a percentage of those people who would do pretty much anything he ask.

Jesus is everything. He is pure love and peace.

Why do you continue to dive headfirst into the shallow end of the pool? If you really want to get into it, every President that’s been elected since we’ve been on this earth is really the same. Political parties, especially in today’s world are cults.

Fair points, OTOH Joseph Smith has been dead for 168 years. That's about how long it took for Christianity to spread widely throughout the Roman Empire. Joseph Smith's life and death are very well documented. The evidence of skullduggery in his 'revelations' is also well documented for anyone willing to examine it. Yet there are millions of Mormons worldwide. Thousands of young men, and a few young women, volunteer annually to take two years out of their lives to go on mission trips at considerable personal hardship, and sometimes personal risk.

quote:correct. Is He a liar, claiming to be someone He's not? Is He a lunatic for actually believing He is the Lord He claims to be? Or, is He the Lord He says He is? That's a question all of us answer in one way or another. And we're responsible for not just how we answer, but also what we do with our answer.
CS Lewis: he’s either a lunatic, a liar, or lord.

Jesus existed. He is an historical figure. There is more evidence to support the accounts of the New Testament than any other figure in antiquity.
Check out the papers and lectures of Gary Habermas, who lays it out very clearly.

And was Joseph Smith bodily resurrected three days after a public state-sponsored execution? And then appeared to hundreds of his followers on several occasions? And then ascended into heaven in front of their eyes? And then those witness-followers persecuted ostracized and martyred for proclaiming that fact for the rest of their lives?
