Warrick Dunn just made a fan out of me.

If you aren't familiar with his story you should spend some time and read about what happened to him and how he came to handle it over the years, including raising his 5 siblings after his mother was murdered when he was 18. Gives you some faith in mankind during times like these.

Dunn is a HOF person. He's always given back and is a true role model.

To OP, why didn't you bold this:
quote:

Another thing we can all do is stress to our elected leaders that we have to look at the issue of guns in our country with serious eyes and intent instead of a political stand-off.

If only he could get on the national scene and say this repeatedly. Listening to him talk when I was at CHS was unbelievable

And her killer was somehow deemed to retarded to be executed. bullshite. He had to know when and where Smothers was gonna be. It was a carefully planned ambush. Don't tell me the killer is retarded.

I don't think anyone will object to looking at gun with serious eyes. Rarely do politicians want to come to an agreement they simply want to grab more control for their side.

Not to derail this thread. Dunn is a great person and has been giving back for year. His stance here does not surprise me.

Because I feel highlighting the social issues are more important. Dunn is correct you are not going to end racism overnight, it is done by how you raise your young. That nothing will change unless people change and that doesn't happen quickly either. Sadly he has a better understanding of the hate towards police better than anyone in here as many of the posters commenting now have been negative towards cops (myself included.)

I was only questioning why OP didn't bold that sentence. It's as important to our nation as the other sentences he highlighted from Dunn.

If my comprehension skills are keen, I'm pretty sure he wasn't talking about "taking away gun rights", he was inferring that if you commit a crime with a gun, the consequences should be quick & harsh. Read the beginning, he's still pissed that his mothers killer is breathing.

Not in my opinion. His words about hate and fathers raising their kids are much higher up the list than gun control for me.

When people are intentional about their use of guns against others - we have to make sure the message that crime doesn’t pay - means something. Today I wonder about that because from my view with my mother’s trial, justice had failed our family but I believe we can and must do better.

This is NOT a plea for taking away 2nd amendment rights. Buuuuut, nice try

I prefer if you would have not highlighted anything and let everyone just read. I know gun reform isn't a winning topic on this board, but it is a social concern.

I still upvote your post, Dunn has always been a class act and ambassador for his truth. I appreciate the post.

I feel if you can raise children that do not hate and you yourself can change and learn not to hate then the issue of guns becomes less of an issue. We have guns because of fear, when you feel safe then the fear subsides.
We will not be alive by the time racial tensions reach their lowest, we've made progress as a society since the 50's and 60's but there is a way to go. Until we raise the next generation and they raise the following generation to not hate then the fear will be there.

I never said it was. I'm all for the 2nd amendment. But he's clearly asking citizens to hold their elected officials accountable for being partisan politicians on guns.

Well when you say "gun reform" that's the most obvious talking point.

I won't get into a gun reform debate here. Like I said, good post.
