Warren Drake doing work. Should I dare be hopeful for EBRPSS?

"Drake has quickly made use of his new authority. Last week, he named 19 school principals, in five cases replacing people already in those jobs.
On Monday, Drake released a new organizational chart that would eliminate 34 positions and would create nine positions. The changes would take effect June 30.
The biggest area of savings, almost $600,000, would come from dropping 18 spots for youth advocates, a Taylor-created position designed to head off potential discipline problems at certain schools. The School Board in August 2013 rejected Taylor’s push to expand the program across the district.
The proposed position of chief of communications and public relations is a merger of about four positions, Drake said. They include the positions now held by Keith Bromery, current communications director, and Marvin Trotter, who oversaw parental and community engagement. Trotter worked with Taylor at his previous job in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Trotter and Haggen were Taylor’s first two hires when he arrived in Baton Rouge in June 2012."

IF there is anyone that can make a difference - it is Warren Drake. But will the board let him???

That article really shows how inept and bureaucratic Taylor was. Someone who is saving money and attempting to solve problems is refreshing.

I do remember Drake has some massive hands. It was like grabbing a bunch of bananas.

It's promising but how long before they oust him and things go backwards again.
The Performing arts school is an example of how fricked up the system has been. I'm not wild about how they've been handling BRH either.
Maybe this guy can stay in there long enough to clean up the mess.

Warren Drake can do it if the board gets out of his way.

There are those who want to reform the current system. There are those who want to preserve the current system. And there are those who want to destroy the current system.
On this forum you will get mainly the latter. Any attempt at reform will be ridiculed and minimized by many and any improvement will be criticized. The good is the enemy of the perfect to these people.
What's kind of weird when you break it down is that those who want the system to fail and those who want to preserve it in it's current form are strangely aligned in opposition to reform. That's why Warren Drake will find few allies. He's surrounded by people who essentially want him to fail. He better have thick skin.

If you would have let them have their chance to peacefully walk away without interfering, it might not be an issue. I don't blame them for wanting your system to fail, if they do.

When Baton Rouge decides he is not good for the status quo, we'll take him in St. George.

Of course you don't. That was my point. Warren Drake will find that he gets hammered from butthurt status quo EBRPSS people who lose their goodies and from butthurt St Georgians who never had any. As far as the eyes can see... only butthurt.

I'm skeptical that the board will let him.

If Warren Drake can't make this school system work, I'd say it never will. He is a great educator and extremely competent.
That being said, he is fighting an uphill battle. Certain politicians who represent people of a lower socioeconomic class will fight him at every turn. I wish him luck and hope he succeeds.

It's EBRPSS. You can polish a turd all you want but at the end of the day it's still just a turd.
Dake will step on the wrong toes soon and he'll be out on this arse just like the rest of them.

When he lets go the friend of a friend of a school board member, the SB will go after him.

He has a proven track record in this position. However, his previous tenure in this position he was dealing with a completely different type of student and community. The question is will he be allowed to by the board and the parents. It is going to be tough with him being white.
