What is/was a "504 Coordinator"?

504s are kind of like IEPs (Individual Education Plans which specify what provisions the school will provide for special education students including gifted, talented, speech, physical handicaps, and things like ADHD). LINK. The coodinator for a school makes sure the required documents are there from the parent/physicians, and meets with the parents & teachers to come up with an educational plan or provisions are necessary.

I think IEPs are also available for gifted/talented accomodations and don't have to be reviewed yearly like 504 plans.

The biggest area of savings, almost $600,000, would come from dropping 18 spots for youth advocates, a Taylor-created position designed to head off potential discipline problems at certain schools

This is a great start. Queen Taylor spent 600 large for problems that are just part of public school life, no matter.

As a previous poster stated, if Drake cannot make improvements than no one -- no one from Grand Rapids in the form of the utterly stupid Bernard Taylor -- will ever be able to.

No. It's hopeless.

The demographics are too bad.

Doubt it. Only way for it get better is if it got a better demographic of students. One guys is not going to make a difference.

The 504 coordinator is actually one of the positions that ought to be kept. Too much Special Ed in this parish means not enough qualified people running it from a school level.

The other positions (if that's what they even can be called) are likely why there was a freezing hike in pay per year taught in EBRPSS for a while. Taylor, the dumbass that he is, felt that Baton Rouge should be on a similar plan as a school district 1,600 miles away. Moron. He lost good teachers because of the salary freeze -- all so he could hire people to do bureaucratic nonsense jobs.

Drake is pretty much the opposite of Taylor. Yeah, he's a hetero-sexual white man from the south, but when he speaks, people do listen. I've known him long before he was even in the principal game. He's legit. Zachary will never improve without him. He knew how to talk to every person imaginable from the custodians to his principals.

WIll he be able to communicate with the board (that wasn't much better than Bernard)? That remains to be seen. If there is one strike against Warren, he'll leave on a jet plane and drop you a note from the sky. He ran out on Tara after school had already started and became principal at Zachary -- a move EBRPSS did not see coming. Zachary, five years ago, would have never thought he'd leave "the #1 school district" either. The man is a player and he'll play HIS game, but he does have his work cut out for him earning his autonomy from the school board.

*ETA also a great move to get rid of Haggan and Ramos -- two incompetent underlings who were breathing others' oxygen while making about 6 figures. I just couldn't see Drake working with those two nimrods.

AND some of the most dense people in the world worked at the central office. Their transfers to Department of Motor Vehicles should easily go through.

He'll be keen about it. He needs to make sure he doesn't make it look like a racial thing. As long as he's putting other blacks into play as new AP's and also principals, no one will notice the trash he threw out. It's a shame it has to be that way, but that's just the way it is.
