Walmart is getting rid of greeters

Gotta feel bad for these folks.

I actually used to like the old people who were greeters at my local Wal-Mart. They were always so friendly and looked genuinely happy to be there.
I hope to have that level of joy at that age, I will just pass on the working at Wal-Mart part.

The disabled workers at any Walmart are probably the best employees at 90% of Walmarts. And just because the other employees can lift 25 lbs does not mean they will lift anything as heavy as a finger on a daily basis.

Honestly have seen a tradional greeter at walmart in a while. Usually just a lady that doesnt speak english well checking reciepts/carts.

There are some disabled folks who work at Goodwill, if you're looking to shop a place that supports them.

Depending on the region, there are several grocery store chains that specialize in employing individuals with special needs.
Publix
Safeway
HEB
Target
Kroger
Just off the top of my head. I’m sure there are many more.

Sad. I don’t go there often, but the greeters are a plus. I liked that Wally World employed those folks. What a shame.

My only real memory of a Wal-Mart greeter was from when I was a little kid going to Wal-Mart with my mom and the greeter asking me if I wanted an A Bug’s Life sticker.

Winn Dixie and Kroger both have handicapped guys and they’re the hardest workers there.
Gyms need to step up and offer free personal training for any Walmart greeter to keep their job. It’s gotta be doable to get the vast majority of these people able to lift 25lbs.

I'm speculating, but I'd think there has got to be some type of incentive beyond being a good corporate citizen to the community. It may be some kind of tax break, it may be an exemption from minimum wage laws, but the cynic in me thinks it's something beyond pure altruism.

Well I can see it wouldn’t be a huge deal with lower minimum wages similar to hiring highschool kids. But now the push for a “living wage” there just is no way to actually afford that type of worker that bring in very little return if any.
