My neighborhood backs up to Christ fellowship. This isn’t surprising.

It is very much the norm to tip on takeout from a sit down restaurant
If they bring it to my car, ok I can give you a little something.
But, if I park, get out , walk in , wait at the bar, wait at the bar, wait at the bar, grab my food, walk back to my car...I mean, what the heck am I tipping for.

mean, I would have been pissed off if that happened to me...but yeah....anyone with common sense knows that mouthing off on social media about job stuff is a dumb move that can never lead to anything good.
Exactly. She expect the business to take her side? They made $700+ bucks? That owner doesn't give a frick about your tips. And a church group? Had to know it was 50/50 getting a tip from a church. And if she expected 15-20% she is beyond stupid.

I went to a bar by waterloo in London and tipped for my beer. The waiter laughed and put the tip i gave in a box for charity fund raiser they are having.
Service staff has become entitled here in US.
That's nice of them. I found just about every pub I was at was happy to take a couple euros for a tip. It isn't part of their culture but they aren't turning the money away

Correct
But some tip on that is common courtesy
She was dumb to bitch about it on social media and they were cheap to completely stiff her

And, if you're a good server, you just have to settle for averages. Everyone gets a bad table here and there. There are a lot of cheap people out there who don't look passed six inches in front of their face. That said, you more than make up for those losses with repeat and quality customers.

What is the going rate for tipping nurses? They never seem to want to let me leave the hospital. Would tipping help?

Right. For every 10% tip I got I had plenty of 25 an 30% tips to make up for it. I usually averaged over 20% and that wasn't at a top notch restaurant.

10-20 bucks on an order that big would have been fine

Turn and burn baby. When it's slow work them over. When it's busy get them in, get them out, get sat again.

Lol. A catering menu has specific prices. No gratuity is generally included or expected. Labor costs are generally worked into the pricing. Most restaurants bust their asses to secure this business. The employees that prepare it are normally hourly kitchen employees compensated by the restaurant . If a waitress is taken off the floor to prep and deliver food compensation arrangements should be made by her employer. The customer has done their part and is the most important part of the entire exchange. Never call out a customer that is keeping your employer in business or you may be looking for work as your employer needs the customer more than you.

Yep. People make too many generalities on threads like this.
Not all places that do take out have a dedicated person for this. Some places the servers are bartenders do it and that means it's taking time away from them serving customers and making tips.
If someone can afford that much of a take out order, they damn sure should be able to leave $5 or $10. With that kind of church it doesn't surprise me though.
And yes, she was quite dumb to go to social media with this crap.

You would think they would look into some catering options or finger sandwiches before dropping $735 on restaurant takeout
Posted on 2/12/18 at 8:50 am to ForeverLSU02
I only tip on takeouts if it's a large order. Not tipping on a $735 order is pretty fricking cheap, regardless of how you feel about tipping/not tipping on takeout.
She was also dumb to post about it.

When you are tax exempt you don't have to care
Posted on 2/12/18 at 8:52 am to ForeverLSU02
Do folks really expect a normal gratuity on a take out order? I mean, yeah, on $735, I might throw $15 bucks on there, but $50? $100? $140? No fricking way on take out.
Posted on 2/12/18 at 8:53 am to ForeverLSU02
I'm sorry I don't care how big an order is I'm not Tipping for takeout. Charge me what It cost you to prepare the order. I'll pay that.
Posted on 2/12/18 at 8:55 am to ForeverLSU02
i tip a dollar or two on takeout at most. on a giant order like this the church should have at least thrown in an extra 20-30 bucks.
