if you don't want it to be that way, then change. nobody is holding a proverbial gun to your head to hand over money that you are in no way contractually obligated to provide. Before you even start, eat a dick with the "social contract" talk. Not my problem.
If you frequent an establishment and tip poorly you can expect poor service
Don't complain when people treat you like the cheap arse that you are

That's almost never the case, as I explained earlier the vast majority of the time it's just regular servers taking these orders and they just have to catch the phone and take care of it all on top of everything else they are doing. Most places don't have a dedicated take out person.
Define most places because ive worked at several and they did have dedicated takeout girls/guys.
Answer me this...do you think if she had gotten a tip for that takeout order she boxed up she would have shared it with the cooks who did way more work on the order than she did?

Thinking that stiffing a server is you being part of some kind of movement is just being a delusional douche.

Church was wrong. I always give a 10% tip on takeouts
Posted on 2/12/18 at 2:12 pm to ForeverLSU02
There is so much wrong with this story.
1) the bitch is dumb for complaining to the church about not receiving a tip. That will get you fired anywhere.
2) the church is dumb for not leaving atleast $10 or something on a to go order that massive.
3) the church doesnt seem very “churchy” for accepting the entire $735 back just because some idiot (yoder) complained to them considering the church still got their food.

Have no idea, 51%? If the bartender doesn't take the order which is what happens alot of times then it falls on a server. I've worked at plenty of restaurants and I've never seen a dedicated takeout person (other than a bartender if you want to count them as such).

No unless they have some sort of tip sharing thing going on. They didn't have to give up tables so that they can take care of a $700 to go order for two hours though either.

Odd. I live in NYC, and there are a few places that I frequent on occasion.

What was the service provided that deserved a tip?
this ^^^^^^
so many people thing every thing you do requires tipping someone just for doing their damn job

tips are "gratuities" for extra special services above and beyond the norm that is already required of you.
40% of the things and situations people think requires tipping doesnt, its just the guilt culture making people think everyone needs to tip for everything.
i argued with people just the other day who insisted you are supposed to tip and all you can eat buffets because the bus boy picks up your plates. a tip isnt required there but i still do because they dont hardly get paid but i do it to be nice if they are friendly and nice but they provide no service at all for me beyond just doing their job. i do not do it because i believe its a required thing, its not.

Could easily be the case.
30 min to an hour to take the whole order and ring it in. If it's 25 orders (all of which are modified this was or that I'm sure) to be read off to you, write it down, read it back, ring it in. Takes a long time.
30 min to get it ready. Packaging salads. Condiments. Checking it over. Etc.
If all paying separate (especially all cash), another 30 min to check them out.
Most of you underestimate what it takes and just think "all my server does is write down my order and fill my coke" but if you ever tried to do it would be shocked at all the things they have to do behind the scenes.

Not in restaurant service. The tip is their pay. They do receive a small amount of pay otherwise but it doesn't amount to anything.

You are belittling what she did. It was not one box with a plastic spork packet. It was 25 steak dinners and 25 chicken dinners, with all the sides, fixings and accoutrements. She was making her small waitress hourly, plus tips.
The Church chose to send The Rainman, who had no idea about eating out in public, to pick up the food. She worked like a pack mule to get their order taken, checked, packed up, and delivered to the vehicle. For this, they are supposed to tip her. They did not.
This set into motion the unfortunate chain of events that led to her losing her job. Blame it on the Rain, man.

When i bartended, I did to-go orders. I was cool with 5% on a to go order tbh. What would piss me off was when Id get, say, 5% on providing service at the bar for someones entire meal. That shite used to drive me up a wall.
