Lots of trashy NTMFs in this thread
Not to mention stupid
If someone thinks that the same level of service is required for fast food and a sit down restaurant then they're complete morons
I'm guessing Chili's is probably the nicest restaurant that guy has ever been to

Wait so the church got a refund? For what exactly?

It's not about entitlement
Most servers do pretty well
It's about people being so fricking dense that they can't understand that there is more to waiting tables than standing at a register slinging chicken sandwiches. Seriously if you can't comprehend why one might be more difficult than the other you're simply stupid.

For getting publicly shamed on social media

Well some people in here are stupid...

I have a kid that works at a very busy chick fil a. She works her butt off. I guarantee you if she waited tables, other than dealing with more rude customers, she'd consider it a cake walk.
I'm taking the ole lady out tonight and when the bill comes (and she's not looking) I'm gonna stiff the waiter as a big

I'm sure she has the aptitude to do it but it does take some training and practice to be good at it

Well, none of that sounds even remotely hard. All in a temperature controlled environment while she and the other waiters bitched about it.
It's not hard, but it is time consuming. Time spent in the back doing instead of taking care of people who would actually tip her.

You can definitely tell who has and who hasn't waited tables in this thread. I have not. And you know what. I bet it's not that damn hard. I'm sorry you think it's rocket surgery, but throwing some plastic wear into a bag is not deserving of 15% of the price of the meal.
No one said it's rocket surgery, but unless you're eating at a really shite establishment it's a lot more work than most of you realize. A $700 to go order is a hell of a lot more work than simply throwing plastic silverware into a bag. That order probably took her an hour or two all told, time that she couldn't be on the floor actually making money.
Whether you tip or not is up to you. I hate the tipping system but that's how servers get paid. Would you refuse to pay your accountant out of spite? What about your barber, if after he cut your hair would you walk out without paying? If someone renders a service for you, pay up. Just because you don't understand all of the work done to make it happen doesn't mean they should work for free for you.

Giving the church a refund was stupid but paying a tip on a takeout order is also stupid.
not when its a big arse order like that it isn't.
that's a ton of food to prep, box, bag, and carry.

Isn't that a problem for the server and the restaurant to solve?
That's one of the many problems with the tipping system - people don't know the ins and outs of it.

Most people know what a reasonable tip is though
Very few people don't know

There are only a handful of tipped professions that people use with any regularity
For most that's eating out, at a bar, at a barber, in a taxi and that's probably 99% of it for most people
There are some other services where I'd probably have to ask if it is customary or not. Like going to a massage parlor. I don't know. I'd guess it is customary to tip? But I'd probably research that before hand.

Don't order take out if you cannot afford to tip. Trashy mother frickers.

And they'll be the same ones to brag about how much money the allegedly have
But can't afford to tip on a take out order at a chain restaurant

no they don't
they know a percentage when it it more about attentiveness, timing and knowledge
serving me a $20 dollar steak is nearly as much level of effort as serving me an $80 steak. it is not reasonable to assume that second server is 4X valuable.

It was $735 worth of takeout food...that is a lot of stuff to get together.
Anyone that doesn't tip at least a small amount for takeout from a restaurant where you normally sit down to eat is pure trash. No one is saying you tip 20%...but at least 10% is standard.
Yikes

If you don't understand that you should leave some sort of tip on a $700+ takeout order you are either an idiot or an a-hole.
Since it sounds like this was an order for a mega church that called to complain, took a refund, and got the waitress fired I'm going to go with it was a total a-hole who picked up the food.
