TBH, waiters/waitresses could do this to me on a regular basis and I'd never catch it.

I think there was a similar story in BR not too long ago.

I mark a line thru and tip cash every time unless I have no cash.

Glad she got caught. I feel bad for people like this who think a couple bucks is a big score for them.

I have a brother who worked in the restaurant industry for about 8 years. He told me that the waiters and waitresses altered credit card tips all the time. It is rarely ever caught and so long as they kept the alterations low the worst that ever happened was just getting fired.

That's why I always tip cash and mark it as such on the receipt.

I also agree that this happens all the time in the service industry. I close out usually about 100 cc tabs a night. If I added 2$ to each one I'd make an extra 200$. Multiply that by 8 nights a pay period and I almost double my paycheck.


While this is morally wrong, it is also incredibly dumb. If you want to steal I'm the service industry there are multitudes of ways to do it, many of which are much less traceable than this
