Sad story.

What’s the speed limit on Shug Jordan Parkway where the accident occurred? Isn’t that close to campus?

Not to sound like an arse, but how does rear-ending a vehicle kill two people in a modern vehicle?
It can happen if you hit a big rig. The lower part of the car goes under while the passengers catch all of the trailer. I don’t know the circumstances of this accident though. It’s a shame. What a terrible way to go. I feel sorry for their family, friends and War Eagle nation.
ETA: Misunderstood what happened. The driver who hit them must have been flying.

How hard do you have to hit a truck in the back to kill the people in the front? Kid must have been drunk and never even hit brakes

Alcohol was not a factor in the accident, which remains under investigation by the Lee County Coroner’s Office and the Auburn Police Division, Harris said.

I think it’s 50 mph.
And, yes, it’s right at the edge of campus. Towards the Vet school.

After LSU beat Auburn 12-6 in 1995, Kevin Wagner offered LSU fans a VHS copy of the Auburn Network’s telecast of the game (not televised by TigerVision or on any other basis in the BR area) for $20, which I jumped all over.
Rod Bramblett did the play by play.
He was very good and made a lasting impression on me, and I’m sure many other LSU fans.
This is a sad day.
You can hear his call of the game here:

I don’t know about killing, but I was sitting at a red light and got flipped over in an F-350 by a Honda Civic. Just as I started to pull out and make a right, she rear ended me going 55+ and got under my truck bed. My bumper was stuck where her windshield and hood met. Had I been in a smaller vehicle, it could have been bad. As it was, I had pretty bad whiplash and a concussion because I was leaning all the way forward looking left and got thrown back in my seat so hard that the metal seat frame broke.
If he hit them going fast enough and they were turning, even a little, he’d have sent them rolling. Rolling without seatbelts could mean head injuries and death.

My first job after law school was personal injury. We attended a very basic class on energy transfer in car crashes. It’s pretty amazing what can happen with enough speed and angles of impact. They showed us a video of a small compact car hitting a big delivery truck on the rear axle while the truck was turning, which was enough to flip the truck over onto its roof. That always stuck with me.

There needs to be some kind of text deactivation technology parents can install on kids’ phones that disables the messaging app while driving.
No there doesn’t. Just put your fricking phone down. It’s not that difficult. If you can’t keep your hands off,’put it in the glove box or the back seat.
