Violent crime declined across the United States last year, according to new statistics from the FBI, including a dramatic drop in the number of murders.
The data show murder and non-negligent manslaughter dropped in the United States nearly 12% from 2022 to 2023 – the largest decline in decades, according to the FBI. The reported number of rapes also dropped significantly, by more than 9%, while reported hate crimes dropped less than 1%.
Overall, violent crime dropped an estimated 3%, and property crime decreased an estimated 2.4%.

The number of reported offenses for certain categories of crimes increased from 2022 to 2023, including vehicle thefts, which went up by nearly 13%.
The report draws from statistics gathered from 16,334 law enforcement agencies from across the country, according to the bureau – more than 85% of agencies enrolled in the FBI’s crime reporting system. The bureau received statistics from major police forces such as the New York and Los Angeles Police Departments.

Yeh, I’m not buying this one bit. Well known that a lot of woke metropolitan areas simply stopped reporting to UCR cause stats be rayciss n shite.

What's sad is that people on here have bitched about high crime rate for year, but they get pissed when it comes down during a Democrat's tenure. If you give a shite about public safety, you should want crime to come down regardless of what it means for your favorite politician. Wake up yall.

Haven’t one or two of the larger precincts also stopped reporting data this year?

I’m pretty sure the last data the indicated a drop in violent crime had some major metro areas completely excluded from the data set. Besides, in places like NYC and SF, the DAs are completely dropping charges for violent crime.
This is all manipulated data. Most people know it’s all bullshite and that crime hasn’t dropped. That’s why they say 3% so you can’t really visualize it. The left gets to say it dropped and people will assume it’a technically true because they won’t notice a difference.

IIRC, Phoenix was one that just didn’t report at all.

When you don't report crimes the numbers go down.

If you defund and reduce the police staff then they cannot respond to all crimes and file the reports. This is to be expected.

quote:Yes, but every other year is an 'election year.' Not saying stats aren't manipulated for political gain, of course they are, but constantly dismissing any info that disagrees with your worldview with "isn't there an election coming up" is lazy. There are elections "coming up" 50% of the time.

It hasn’t gone down. Reporting by both individuals and city police depts have gone WAY down
In 2020 64% of robbery victims reported to the cops, now only 44% do.
In 2020 3% of police depts failed to report their numbers to the FBI. Now 30% fail to.
