A lot of his video is due to the decimation of farming and the expansion of the welfare state. As farming became more mechanized (needing less manual labor) in the 70's and 80's, low and no-skill workers just stayed put (because social programs could fund their lifestyle to about the same level) instead of moving to find other work.
