Higher elevation near Sicily island area compared with south Louisiana. Wanna say they’re 300 or so feet above sea level.

It’s been a rough 50-60 years for most towns in this part of the state. I honestly don’t see it turning around quickly or easily any time soon.

As farming became more mechanized (needing less manual labor) in the 70's and 80's, low and no-skill workers just stayed put (because social programs could fund their lifestyle to about the same level) instead of moving to find other work.
