But without the video the narrative to this incident would probably be different. You'd have the same people standing behind the blueline. While others would side with the victim.

Before the video came out the narrative was different. All the early media reports told the same bullshite story of a perp who was shot after taking a cop's Taser.

How are black people taking this one? Btw, it's sad that this is even a legit question. I wish people could step back and view each case and story on the facts.

But how they doin? I'm honestly fatigued from all this shite the past few years. Riots are fun for a day or two but they get old, fast. They goin' HAM?

Victim is too old for most to give a shite imo. A few protestors but its not as attractive as a younger teen or twenty-something.

In the US, around 3800-4000 officers have been killed since 1990.

Does that include all deaths? Might be better to say "died in the line of duty." Other language suggests they were all murder victims, which, from what I have read elsewhere, is surprisingly rare.

But, we have to be careful with all of these kinds of numbers.

Still, I would expect a wide disparity b/w the two countries.

Did much time pass between the shooting and the release of the video?

Curios to see how many stories changed.

I don't understand why everyone can't focus in on cop behavior instead of the race aspect of it. God damn, kinda just shows that nobody actually cares about "black lives." It's all about being able to scold us white folks.

It would be SO much more beneficial to go after government and the police. One can only dream, I suppose.

You clearly see the cop toss the taser onto the victim.

could have been the AED as they did say they tried CPC...The AED most likely told them not to start CPR.

Not only that but at the time he threw the AED....the other Peace Officer might not noticed him throw it...no way to tell if he saw the toss or not. Not all Peace Officers carry thrown downs...

Later in the full video the shooter picks something up, and seems to "holster"(?) it. What was it? ~~~ After that, when two other cops arrive, one pulls the shooter to the side..at one point it seems the cop takes something from his hip and places it on the shooter's hip. WTF?

Did the cop just pick it up from a few feet away and throw it closer? Surely he isn't that damn calm after shooting a dude, unless he is a sociopath

Not really. Just because a suspect is running away, or in this case jogging, doesn't mean it's open season on them

Chase the non-threat down and put him in cuffs? Nah. Let's shoot him to death in the back.
That's not the point I was making. Why was the guy running from the cops? That leaves him open to getting chased, tackled, hurt, probably contorted once he's captured, etc. All the things you see on COPS...

Does he deserve to be shot? No freaking way. That was disgusting. But it was a traffic stop. What was a 50 year old man going to do, outrun a somewhat fit cop? Was he not going to get arrested either way? I just don't understand the stupidity.

The news report before the video came out.

Police and witnesses say Scott tried to run from Slager before turning to fight for the officer's Taser. It was during that scuffle that the officer fired his service weapon, fatally wounding Scott. According to an incident report, officers heard Slager say over the radio that he had deployed his Taser and "seconds later" he said "Shots fired and the subject is down. He took my Taser." Attorney David Aylor released a statement Monday that reiterated the police report. “This is a very tragic event for all of the families," Aylor said. "I believe once the community hears all the facts of this shooting, they'll have a better understanding of the circumstances surrounding this investigation. Officer Slager believes he followed all the proper procedures and policies of the North Charleston Police Department.”
