What can you charge the arresting officer for?

I don't know if lying to his superiors about the story is a crime. If it is, he be guilty.

clearly forced her to take her own life

reminds me of arlo guthrie from "alice's restaurant"

He said: "Kid, I'm gonna put you in a cell. I want your wallet and your belt." I said, "Obie, I can understand your wantin' my wallet, so I don't have any money to spend in the cell, but what do you want my belt for?" and he said, "Kid, we don't want any hangin's." I said, "Obie, did you think I was gonna hang myself for litterin'?"

the one time i was in custody at 15 for minor in possession, i don't recall thinking for one moment that suicide was an option.

"clearly" ms bland had problems much larger than a traffic stop. it sounds like she thinks there are 70 virgins waiting for her.

frick off for the stupid comment, but after looking at the video again you're correct he pulled her over after the u turn for changing lanes without a blinker which is still illegal.

I still don't understand why the officer asked her to put out a cig in her own car, then got upset when she questioned him about it. Such a dumb reason for the cop to further escalate things. All he had to do was give her the ticket and not let his big head get to him.

Maybe the law enforcement officer has asthma and can't be around second hand smoke.

are you telling me that a cop pulls her over for no turn signal when she clearly was getting out of his way and she has no right to be angry or frustrated?

She also didn't use a turn signal at the stop sign either fwiw.

I think cops have a real need to have the upper hand and not give in when a basic request/order is rebuffed. Partially for safety. By way of power. Another poster said cigs get flicked by pissed off people.

Pretty sure b/c she was a black woman with a bad attitude I'm inclined to not care one bit about this, but the cop was a complete dick and a shitty cop for pulling her over for ticky tacky shite.

She was 100% correct.

They tell you to put out the cig because it can be used as a weapon. I had a drunk bitch in a bar stick a lit cig into my cheek one time when I was at LSU. It wasn't nice.

I couldn't figure out the big deal from the OP until I opened the article and saw this lady was black. Now it is all clear. This White Hispanic officer (see that?) obviously targeted her because of race and then snuck into her jail cell and assassinated her because of race. Like this would be getting the same attention if this was a Hispanic lady.

just gonna give her a warning like the earlier stop. She also failed to signal at the stop sign, and thats why I intially thought he u-turned.

And who knows what her attitude was like to make him ask her twice what she was upset about.

He was pleasant with her from the start.

Both were in the wrong. If she had just taken the cop's BS and then reported him later or something, she'd still be alive today. Instead, she got stupid and threw an attitude which was the beginning of the end for her.

It is a damn good reason to pull her over. He was looking for something and it wasn't tickets. That is why he was giving warnings out. He was looking for something in that area. Maybe they had a rash of burglaries, robberies of something else.

I have made a ton of great arrest off of ticky tack little violations. I have also let a ton of people off with a quick warning if they weren't the criminal I was looking for.

ignore a question and say "I am giving a lawful order" then arrest you for resisting arrest, when no initial arrest was made

technically, a ticket is an arrest. Refusing to sign one will result in jail. Signing one, just releases you on your own cognizance.

I'm glad she's gone. Sounded like she was a real drain on the economy

ACtually, she was just offered a good job.
But your comment is typical.

I don't see how you can get a "good job" when you can't follow simple orders.

Media is reporting that She talked about her battles with depression and PTSD on Facebook. Who knows ? Maybe she thought she would lose the job offer? People who suicide often do it in a perceived crisis. I don't know. But she did

Watching coverage of this event on CNN right now.

I applaud how they sensationalize details for ratings. True pros.
