This pandemic has really exposed what many of us who are serving/have served have known for years. Leadership at all levels in the Military is rife with nepotism and yes men. Results, tactical and technical proficiency and the welfare of those under their command have taken a backseat to green excel spreadsheets, reporting "readiness" and making superiors happy no matter what.
Hopefully we can pull some good out of this in the way of reform but I doubt it. Hats off to you Captain Crozier and the other leaders in the Military like you. It's a damn shame.

That was a false and unfounded allegation.

That was fake news that I posted last night which turned out to be inaccurate. SECNAV doesn't believe he DIRECTLY leaked the letter to the press. However, he did spread that letter liberally around to between 30-40 people, which allowed the letter to eventually end up in the hands of the San Francisco Chronicle. That's why he was fired.

Military has grown soft I guess. Combine that with the poor economy, we can kill 2 birds with one stone by declaring on China.

No doubt he was well liked by his men according to this video. HOWEVER, there is a chain of command and we don't expect our leaders to panic and broadcast info to every tom, dick, and harry. Our enemies don't need to know how our defense is manned at any given time. This info should have been internally handled. He might as well put the problem on instagram, facebook, tictok, etc...

No we expect them to sit idle paralyzed by indecisiveness waiting for their boss to tell them what to do. 2700 sailors were offloaded from the ship only after that memo was penned.

Navy Captains shouldn’t panic.

I'll be your only upvote as of now. I've never served and if that's your opinion I'll respect it. I think the Captain did what he felt was best for his men. He's no idiot. He's just the next Richard Jewell if I had to guess. fricked over until otherwise proven.

Great idea. Let's declare war on the most populous nation on earth. The second largest economy. And a nuclear power. What could possibly go wrong?

No, he essentially sent it out to the ether by sending it to like 30-40 people outside of the chain of command. He should’ve been reprimanded at the very least but I think his punishment is just.

Doing this....
Is the same as doing this...
Especially considering he did it via unsecured email.
I understand his concern for his sailors. But he went about this the wrong way. And he did so in a way any commander should know better than to do.
I’m sorry I know it sucks for him. But he should have known you cannot do something like broadcasting over unsecured channels to dozens of people the fact an American aircraft carrier is out of commission for weeks.

He is the Commander of a United State American Aircraft Carrier. The most potent weapons system on the face of the planet. He should quit acting like a bitch, and let herd immunity run its course. My lord we'd be screwed if a war broke out with this coward commanding. I can see it now "Sir there is a torpedo in the water, OMG OMG OMG what do we do!???""

Oh stfu. The status of that carrier has been publicly known for weeks now, well before that memo. The CPT was fired for sending the memo to members outside of his chain of command

Yes, he is a leaker.

Sometimes you need to sacrifice everything to save others. He did and he’s completely justified in my opinion. He was simply trying to look out for the sailors on his ship. I understand the bad optics of exposing the ship’s capabilities to others but he did so to help his men. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion.

As well he should.

And every man on that ship let him know they were with him. Think about that.

The man made a mistake, but you're fricking pathetic.

It doesn't matter, it's my opinion because I deal with it daily. People view the Military and the way it works separately from our government for some reason when in reality it's a broken bureaucracy just the same.
