They're financing these things for 8 years.

These people are getting high end vehicles.
In my day you got Something cheap like Toyota single cab, Nissan hardbody, Isuzu pickup, or entry level car with AC and a radio.
If someone asked what you got you could say Toyota Pickup or Toyota car. No other name was used as it was a practical vehicle.

The best piece of financial advice (that I have followed) was my dad telling me never to have a car payment unless it was for minimal transportation. He told me to drive the car I had for 4 years after getting my first job paying myself what would be a car payment each month so I would have the cash to buy a new one in 4 years. I am 55yo now, have owned over 30 cars and have never taken out a single car loan.
That may have been very sage advice for your dad who probably never lived in a time when car dealers were throwing 0% financing at you, but the wiser decision would be why not let your saved car purchase money pot continue to earn interest if an opportunity came around to have a zero interest note? Especially if the payment was less than what you were putting aside each month to buy a new car cash as you could still pay into your kitty too.

Disagree. The 'poor' people on here who don't have $1200 a month car payments are likely maxing out all their retirement accounts and have a nice nest egg in the bank for a rainy day while you have a $1200 a month car payment on a depreciating asset POS Dodge or GM.

Poor is a mentality. If you have a $1k car note and you're not fairly wealthy, that might be you.
Conspicuous consumption tells a hell of a lot about a guy.

Total BS and lies. Those are just made up numbers.

So you cannot afford a nice vehicle. It’s okay buddy lol.

People generally don’t know how to manage money. Even some otherwise smart people are just plain dumb when it comes to money.

I’d rather pay 1k a month and have 59k leftover for whatever then drop 60k all at once on a 60k vehicle!

Brother, I drive a 2005 Toyota Camry with 130,000 miles on it and don't have a worry in the world. I don't care what happens to that car. It gets me to and from work and that is it. I don't need a car on the weekends because I can walk to restaurants/retail etc. Instead of a $1200 car payment that gets me literally nothing I choose to put my money in other things that will actually benefit me.

I'd rather just not pay 60k for a vehicle.
What is the difference in you driving your 60k pickup to the office vs me driving my 20k Corolla to the office?

I'd rather use some of that revenue for other things. But you do you.

Personal preference really. Nobody is forcing you drive a 60k pickup. However, I don’t know many 60k pickup owners constantly whining about used Camry owners unlike y’all.

I'd rather not finance depreciating assets especially when we have one hell of a financial disaster on the way. October is going to be brutal for a lot of people that aren't prepared.

Cars are lasting longer than ever. The average age of a vehicle on the road is over 12 years. The oldest it has ever been.

1k vs 59k used for an investment is a massive difference
