Gives a pretty cool perspective from inside the park after 9 years of decay. I've always been fascinated by abandoned places and how nature reclaims the environment.

It's a shame that the city council couldn't get its act together and actually do something with the park before it got to this state.

With all the post apocalyptic movies being made, I'm surprised they haven't filmed a movie there yet. (They may have but I'm not aware of it)

ETA: Looks like the new Jurassic Park has been filming there.

Think they shot the Percy Jackson sequel there.

I'm not trying to hijack your thread but if you want to see what an area looks like that has been abandoned by humans, you should take a tour around the area of Chernobyl in northern Ukraine.

The city of Pripyat is probably the worst. It was a city of about 50,000 residents and was built specifically for the workers in the nuclear power plant to live in.

You can only stay in the area a few hours safely due to the ongoing radioactivity but just walking through the towns in the area is one of the creepiest experiences I've ever had.

Some apartments still have plates set on the table with food dried out in bowls on the table, children's dolls propped up in baby cribs and clothes hanging in closets. No one will steal anything because all those items are so radioactive.

Wolves have re-inhabited the area along with bears that were almost extinct in that area when the accident happened in 1986.

I have a question for the photographer; If I go will I be caught by the cops?

Dan Snyder is an arse who abandoned the city. Because he doesn't live here, he could not be pressured like Benson.

It was Six Flags least profitable park. Katrina caused around 32 million in damages and Six Flags only got around 11 million from insurance claims.

Six Flags decided to remove anything of value from the park (like the batman roller coaster) and skip town.

Don't park your car on Lake Forrest by the main gates.

"Break down" on 510 with your flashers on, walk down towards the lake forest exit. Then follow the levee back towards I-10 until you see the gates at the back entrance. The wood blocking the gap was put up by people going into the park, move it out of the way and the gate opens enough to go through or is easily scaled.
You are in the park. Leave through the same exit, use your ears, know where you are, and be prepared to run. Generally not cops there, they occasionally will have security. There are few cops in the east period, so your chances of getting in and out are very high.

That is definitely on the top of my list. I saw a ton of interesting places when I was in China including their abandoned attempt at building a copy of Disney world.

I've filmed in that park so many times over the past few years, it's lost most of its appeal to me. Also, even with security, getting into the park isn't terribly difficult. Not getting caught is, and even then, you just get asked to leave.

They bought it in the first place because they believed it was underperforming and that they could make a killing. In fact they were planning a water park. I think the issue was the insurance claims as you indicated. The city has a pretty big claim against Six Flags over the removal of equipment that I don't know the status of.
