I once worked for a very cool, very calm, professional black man. I have much respect for this guy.

Once, in a very informal setting, for some reason I said ‘whatever, whatever” and laughed.

He immediately got very serious and gave me a look that could kill and said ‘What the hell did you just say to me?” I repeated it “whatever, whatever” and then he returned back to his calm and cool self and said “oh, I thought you said ‘whatever, n$’$&$”.

I thought that man was about to kill me.

It’s not what you say it’s what they hear when you say it or something like that.

Did he apologize? Pretty unprofessional to react like that.

First thinking racism is behind every interaction not liked or understood is a problem.

Kind of reminds me a little of the volleyball situation at BYU where the black player from Duke I think claimed to hear racist taunts from BYU student section that no one else heard, cops brought over to student section didn’t hear, tv cameras didn’t pick up, and so on. Then afterwards a mentally disabled guy got pointed out by the player who i don’t think was ever in section she claimed taunts were coming from and was later cleared.

I genuinely never associated nizzle with the n word until now. Wow
