A straight, white, old, conservative, outwardly religious, rich man who is universally loved in a blue city shows you just how great he truly is. You know there are a lot of race pimps and victimhood peddlers who really want to hate him or take him down a peg or two.

He is a good guy now. However, he and his brother got their furniture seed money in Dallas in a gym that went under. They knew it was going under and sold "lifetime" memberships to people knowing they were going under. How do I know? a good friend of my dad's worked for him after his career in the NFL ended. He was a sales guy for Mack and his brother and participated in the membership sales.
Mack came to Houston and starting selling furniture out of a flea market off 610. He did things to draw attention and one of them backfired. He hired a guy with a Tiger to walk around and draw people to the flea market and his furniture business. It mauled a 7 or 8 year old girl. He did right by her and the family and covered all medical expenses.
By all accounts he is a great person, a good boss and does a lot for the community. Just shows you that it is possible to really make a change in your life for the better.

And it all started because of his brother who graduated from LSU

his dad gave him 50,000 after graduation as seed money
his research suggested a furniture business that financed the furniture for blue-collar and the middle class was a good model
my uncle gave him his first loan to expand
makes the bulk of his money on the high-interest rates and impulse buys encouraged by same day delivery

Maybe they tried to sell more lifetime memberships in a effort to keep from gong under. I have previously owned part of a business, and none of our sales peopie, or other employees had access to financal records, or any actual knowledge about the viability of the business, I suggest the same was true for your dad's friend.

My in-laws got their house fully filled with furniture on every room with nice shite because they took Mack up on his open offer that your stuff is free if the Astros will the World Series.
That may not have been the actual sporting event, but it definitely has something to do with the Astros either making the World Series or winning World Series, if you spent more than $5000 on furniture it was $0 for you.
