but who's getting the $20 extra for the dumbasses who pay through it?
If I remember correctly the app was created by a private company at no cost to the state. The fee is how they make their money back.

I don't think I've handled a vehicle registration renewal at a physical DMV office in nearly two decades.

It's the website for the LA OMV, so I'm sure it's related to the LA Wallet. I get mailed a notice where I can do it online and they mail it a few weeks later. Just got the new registration this weekend.
That's what I did a month or so ago. Convenience fee was 3 bucks, I believe.
I renewed my DL on LA Wallet over the weekend. Doesn't expire until 2031. The total was $55.25. There was a convenience fee, but I don't remember what it was and it was broken down on the receipt, but it sure was convenient.

Well, I go to it, and it says the renewal fee is $70 with a $23 "convenience fee" for a total of $93.
That is a ridiculous amount. For us using online renewal included a net processing fee of $3.75 for a $73 registration ($4.75 minus a $1 discount for renewing online).
They are closer to charging you for what I have seen for a $600 to $700 charge than for a $70 charge.

I love a good sovereign citizen/cop interaction video. Got some full on free range idiots running around.

Yes, I'm going to bitch about paying a 1/3 extra tax on this already stupid tax for the convenciene of me electronically sending them my money. It doesn't make a lot of sense.
That's why I mail them a check, just the principal of it.

Got the same email today. Deleted it.

Mine is 17 years old, gonna get a duplicate title and sell to Carvana for $2,000 instead of new registration. (74,000 miles on a Mitsubishi 4 cylinder)

This year my price dropped to like $44

Do it the old fashion way and mail a check. No fees and you get your renewal in about 2 weeks.

Just did it, came in within the week. No issues.
