I didn’t plan to be hunting in hail. I was on the ground and decided to head out as I heard some thunder rolling in. Was a tornado watch in the area but rain was supposed to hold off until right at shooting time. Got about 200 yards from the stand and saw the first piece drop. Got 400 yards from the truck and it started coming down hard, I ran the rest of the way with a seat cushion over my head after a golf ball sized chunk hit me on the head. Got pelted and soaked the rest of the way. Jumped in the truck and tried to get under a tree but it was pretty close to over.
I’ll have some bruises on my shoulders and chest. It was pretty scary if I’m being honest.

Insurance totals it and gives you about 85% of what you owe. Good luck.

By gluing a bunch of permanganate to underside of brake fluid reservoir cap and wait for you to hit a bump.

Go ahead, try at home!

Doesn’t take much hail damage to total a vehicle.

It does on a new F150.

Take an old steel rake and scratch every panel. Insurance will cover damage and a total new paint job. That way all body panels will match.

Edit:
Read an answer below. Sucks to be you, insurance rates going up.

Happened to me in 2018, insurance totaled my truck. To the guy who said to scratch all panels, that is why they totaled mine (hail damaged them all), they aren't going to pay to restore the entire body. They will total, pay you and sell the rest for a profit.

If you are in a large hail prone area always pay for the value plus 20% on insurance.

So far what I can find in the dark with a flashlight is the hood, roof, A pillars, and a couple of doors.
Now the roof has 30-40 dents and the hood has 30+ as well. I don’t know how in the world they can fix that many dents and it be unnoticeable. I think I’ve decided I’d rather it be totaled than have a “fixed” new truck.

they can pop out most of them. it's hard to total a new vehicle based on just body damage. the easiest thing is pick a paintless repair shop within your insurance's network that way it's guaranteed.

Comp claims are non-chargeable events. A rock in a windshield claim is the same as a hail claim - both comp. Reach out to your agent. They will tell you the same thing.
comp claims over a certain dollar amount can be different and losing zero claims discounts absolutely hurts your bottom line pricing.

They’ll find more than 30-40 on the roof and hood, but it still won’t total your truck unless you’re driving a 25 year old beater…which you are not.

My wife was in North Mississippi last night and her Camry got smoked. I bought it the week before last.

If it wasn't wrong, I'd finish it off with a ball peen hammer.

My agent would first ask me "why tf you hunting in hail", but he's just like that, and then fix it.

Had not thought of that. Hoping OP was in a shooting house and not 30’ up in a tree.

My Ford escape got totaled because of hail damage. Kind of pissed me off as I was like a year out from paying it off.

how does insurance handle this?

How it worked for me: Somebody came out and took photos and estimate. I took my car to a repair shop. Insurance cut me a check for the initial estimate. Repair shop repaired initial estimate. I paid repair shop with insurance money plus deductible. Repair shop filed supplemental with insurance to do additional work. Repair shop did additional work. Insurance paid repair shop directly for additional work.

Your insurance agent will explain the process for filing a claim. They may send out an adjuster to review the damage or let you send photos. They will ask where you want to have the work done and send a check to the place you choose.

Even if they find more, this doesn't sound like enough to total it.

Mine was only 3 years old, but it was baseball sized hail and every panel needed to be replaced along with the windshield and one window.
