Specifically, the bill was designed to target eSports wagering, or betting on competitive video games, according to casino.org, but it opens up the possibilities to include a wide range of betting options, excluding polititcs. One example would be parimutuel wagering on the outcome of the Oscars.
Wagering on eSports has been occurring in Nevada since last fall under the state's Gaming Control Board, but Governor Sandoval's signature on Senate Bill 240 legalizes the wagers for the foreseeable future. Already casinos have been building up eSports betting pavilions in Las Vegas, because gaming analysts believe that these games and ones like them appeal more to millennials than slot machines.
“Earlier this year the NBA announced the formation of the NBA 2K eLeague, with 17 of the actual franchises agreeing to participate,” wrote casino.org‘s David Sheldon. “Each eSports NBA team will consist of five gamers, who will compete against other teams in a manner that mimics the regular real-life NBA season. That unique format alone should attract plenty of eSports betting activity.”

this happened in some counter strike games, big favs betting against themselves and tanking. i believe they were betting with overseas books

I used to use a Russian book that would take wagers on video games. From all the bigger games you'd expect all the way down to Worms. That blew my mind when I realized I could place bets on Worms.
