quote:Well from a theoretical and psychometric perspective, all tests that require cognitive processing load on a general intelligence factor.
I mean it isn't an IQ test if that is what they're inferring, but it damn sure measures your ability to recall the information you should know before you enter an American college.
So while the ACT is not an IQ test, it does rely on intelligence and cognitive processing and therefore, does measure IQ to some extent. Regardless the correlation enables a a basic, but somewhat variable, inference.

What lol? It's an extreme example to demonstrate a point. Is that really so laughable that it isn't worthy of discussion and must be condescended? I guess you know a lot more than me.

It's only a poor indicator for those on the OT who either they themselves or their kids scored poorly yet still had a 3.0 in high school.
I made decent grades in high school, but only had an acceptable ACT scores. In college I was in an honors fraternity, later earned a master's, and am currently working on a doctorate in a STEM field.
My IQ is fine but there is a lot that goes into taking the ACT.

quote:Well if it measures the ability to learn then it would be an IQ test. Since it measures academic achievement, which is significantly dependent on the ability to learn, then it's an INDICATOR variable.
Its a really poor indicator because it doesnt test someones ability to learn.

Interviewed a kid today that looked and spoke a lot like Mr. Jones. Had an engineering degree from aTm but between the dreds and his awful grasp of the English language there was no way I was going to hire this kid to represent our company and interact with clients.
I questioned him on technical data about engineering that he should know and it was apparent he was lost.

I dont have anything to learn. Im around a more diverse group of people than anyone on this board. I dont judge a book by its cover.

I suppose he don't want no part of the English language either.
Well, by that logic Spanish, Portugues, Italian, French, and Romanian "don't want no part of" Latin either.

The test is not very in depth and covers a broad range in each topic. Not being very proficient in a certain subject is not going to kill your score.

Not all curriclums are created equal.
Its why some are laughing at his 4.0
His gpa might be a 2.3 in a school like Jesuit.

Until you sit in an extremely shitty black classroom you cant really comment on the situation.
I cant have an opinion that the ACT isnt a poor indicator of intelligence because I havent sat in a shitty black classroom?

Didnt realize someones accent represents a certain culture level. I know extremely well spoken individuals who arent smart at all.
Amen brother..Some people are well spoken, but are dumb as hell.

well. your loss
ignore the kid. let's focus on the mom (who is white, i believe)
i can guess a great deal about his mom by her picture, posture, clothing, etc.
i can also guess a great deal about his mom based on how she speaks
cultures are not equal
cultures are TYPICALLY easily deduced from external stimuli
*ETA: this has nothing to do with intelligence. this is cultural

309 with the new format.
I took the old format and did much better in Math. Under the new format I did much better in verbal reasoning.

Come on, the kid was born and raised in LA most likely. I'm not critiquing a foreigner's command of the English language.

Do you trust standardized test scores or GPAs more?
I trust a high GPA more. A high GPA tells me they are willing to learn the material that is given to them. A high test score and low GPA just tells me someone is lazy. Also, none of this is relevant post highschool.

Let me ask you, when a guy like Leonard Fournette speaks, what do you think about him?
