The Panther tank, officially Panzerkampfwagen V Panther (abbreviated PzKpfw V) with ordnance inventory designation: Sd.Kfz. 171, is a German medium tank of World War II. It was used on the Eastern and Western Fronts from mid-1943 to the end of the war in May 1945.

The Panther was intended to counter the Soviet T-34 medium tank and to replace the Panzer III and Panzer IV. Nevertheless, it served alongside the Panzer IV and the heavier Tiger I until the end of the war. It had excellent firepower, protection and mobility, although its reliability was less impressive.

Did the Germans use zimmerit (sp?) all the way to the end of the war? Or did they quit applying it in late '44 or in '45? Too lazy to check the Googles.

Nice zimmerit. You do that yourself or is it molded in the plastic? Well done either way. I've got a 1/350 Arleigh Burke DDG on my desk and it's a little bit out of my comfort zone I'm more of an aircraft and armor guy. So many tiny bits to shoot across the room with the tweezers

They stopped in mid to late 44 if I remember correctly.

Thanks. The Zimmerit is a Tamiya zimmerit decal sheet.

Takes a little time to cut them out but it works great.

Germans had some very intimidating hardware in the war. Nice job on it

Thanks. Glad you like it. The Panther, once it’s initial teething troubles were worked out, was tank for tank, arguably the best tank of the war. If the Germans had been smart they’d have focused on Panther production instead of producing a litany of various vehicles panzers and jagdpanzers.

Great work there Vader.

What was the purpose of the rough areas on the turret and front? Deflect light to make it harder to see while waiting in ambush perhaps.
