That one looks like the pink painted Warhawks.
True story, they painted them pink in north Africa.

Not an actual one but a large replica...I think somewhere around 1/2 size--not sure if it's supposed to be a D or an early N model with the 4 wing mounted MG.
Daily Reville Link with several P-40 pictures Couldn't the the photo link to work.

Amazing how fast the technology advanced in the 40s. The Warhawk was the best fighter the US had in 1941. By 1944 the P51 was much faster with more armaments.

P-40 Warhawk was known as the Tomahawk (probably verboten to call it that now) and the Kittyhawk in service with the British Commonwealth air forces.
Yep. I built this Brit version some years ago.

That thing is badass. Props. Always enjoy your work and your attention to detail.

The 76th Fighter Squadron was part of the 23rd Fighter Group, which was the name given to the AVG when they were absorbed into the USAAF. The descendants of the 23rd, the 23rd Tactical Fighter Wing, are still around, flying shark-mouthed A-10s

Have you ever built a Dewoitine D.520?

No. But I’d like to. The selection of French models is… slim pickings. Tamiya does make a kit though. Looks like I’ve found the next addition to my stash.

Most I buy from a local hobby shop. I set local, it’s on Hoover about an hour from where I live. I also order some from Amazon and eBay. Usually once a year we’ll make a day trip to Memphis to a Hobby Shop there that has a tremendous selection. Also, whenever I travel for business, I’ll check to se if the city I’m in has a good model shop.
I remember the days as a kid when Jackson had a nice hobby shop. That was the coolest store on earth. It was always hard to choose which kit I wanted. Since those days, the store has gone from being a hobby shop to a record store, to a bar, then a seafood restaurant, and now it's the site of a Petco.

It’s not a real one. It’s scaled down, looks like about 80%. It’s decorated in lsu livery with the flying tiger logo and Mike the Tiger is in the cockpit.
Edit:

I feel the need to state that Claire Chennault attended LSU, hence the connection

Aahhhhh! The "E" model! Very nice!
I always wanted to get a few hours in an older "B" model like the Flying Tigers (AVG) flew when they first got to Rangoon.
Side note: General Claire Lee Channault, commander of the American Volunteer Group and later the 14th Air Force was an LSU boy! (Although he graduated from Louisiana Normal College). His hand-written memoirs can be found at Hill Memorial Library on campus at LSU.

Thanks. Glad you liked it. I have to say, though I’ve studied the Flying Tigers quite a bit over the years, I was not aware of their Louisiana connection.

When did the P-40 go out of service? I am trying to remember the single prop that was still around doing CAS in the first part of Vietnam.

I’m pretty sure it was retired, at least from American service, by the end of WWII.

You’re thinking of the Douglas A-1 Skyraider…

Small correction to "History Lesson"'
The AVG was not "fighting the Japanese before Pearl Harbor".
They were organized and in training in China before Pearl but did not actually fight until later in Dec 1941.
However, Chennault was on the Chinese Air Force Staff from 1937-38 and there are sketchy reports that he may have actually entered combat himself at that time in Russian supplied planes or possibly an earlier Hawk 75 but again details are very sketchy. But the common misconception the the AVG was fighting the Japanese long before Pearl Harbor is a false one.
This takes nothing away from the AVG's accomplishments and we should all be proud of its Louisiana and LSU connection thru Chennault. He most definitely was a great leader, organizer and trainer as well as a fighter. A true Fighting Tiger!

Great build!
I went down a rabbit hole looking for info on Russian paratroopers in WW2. Turns out they would slide off the wing of a Tupolev TB-3. 1 in 10 parachutes didn’t work but the quality picked up a lot when the US started supplying their parachutes. Anyway, I saw some model kits of this plane and thought it would be interesting to build it with a bunch of folks hanging out on the wing like here. Not sure what the quality of these models are though.

Sweet display. Is that Bounty?

I was thinking about getting back into model building... haven't done it since I was a kid. Seems like a nice relaxing hobby.
Where are you buying your kits?

Great build! You discussing build times in days is almost ridiculous in my mind. My builds are usually in years+.
Curious, what's your technique to get those panel lines marked so well?
