The old one looks much better.

I like the new flag better to be honest. It's more original than the old one, and simple.

why do states change their flags so often? i don't get it

When the bi-annual "what is the best state flag" hits tOT the minimalist flags are usually the ones that "score" the best. South Carolina is usually near the top for example.

Personally, I think the state seal versions and other flags with lots of small details present poorly on a flagpole whereas the simple ones look much better.

We need a new Louisiana flag.

Maybe a Fleur de lis behind someone getting car jacked?

Or a car trapped in a pothole?

A gator getting mugged?

I don't disagree but I don't have the vaguest notion of font psychology.

About 10 years ago my firm went through a merger and there was a lot of money spent for an ad firm to design the new logo once the name was agreed upon. The font is fine but I never shook the feeling I couldn't have done just as well rummaging through the various fonts in MS Word. I remember in the pitch the adjective "modern" kept being used. I can't imagine my choice of law firm being affected by a font but I can say other's choices aren't.
