Wiki says our Test depth: 950 ft (290 m) so we will leave it at that

The Seawolf class can dive deeper than Los Angeles and Virginia classes because they have a higher grade steel hull.

I believe the older classes (pre-688's) could go deeper because their ship had more watertight bulkheads reinforcing the hull

ETA: I was right!

The maximum diving depth is 1,475 ft (450 m) according to Jane's Fighting Ships, 2004–2005 Edition, edited by Commodore Stephen Saunders of the Royal Navy.[16]

dungarees

I was one of the last groups that got issued dungarees. Goddamn those pants were so comfortable after a few washes. The new utilities sucked arse. I'm glad I spent 95% of my career wearing a poopy suit.

terd, this may too technical for you to answer...I see pics of 'sailors' walking on the sub...How slippery is it when wet? Would it be a big deal if you slipped and fell off?

You look pretty bouyant but some guys might not be...

Whole bunch of nonskid up there dude.

That being said, I want to say in 2006 2 guys died leaving the UK on a Los Angeles class when they were swept overboard in massive seas.

I want to say it was the Minneapolis-St Paul? I probably have the sub, year, and number of people incorrect though.

Edited for actual incident

After reading these stories, I'm pretty sure I know who your CO was and which boat you were on.

Dummy as in it has no system to power it or dummy as in it had no warhead?

Yeah, if you fell off while the ship was underweigh you were almost guaranteed to be sucked into the prop.

While in port, we put up guidelines along one side of the ship as an emergency grab in case you lose your balance.

Well, there it is. It must've been his turn for the Kobiashi Maru.

He just didn't re-program the test parameters properly.

no warhead. It was your typical MK-48 ADCAP but with bouyant material installed where the 650lbs warhead normally resides.
